What would Starlin Castro cost? I like his always splita. I certainly think he would be more productive than Dozier was .  . .
Love his bat (another one of those high contact guys like Howie and Asdrubal). I was hoping we'd get that package of Realmuto and Castro that the Marlins were shopping a year ago.

Travis D'Arnaud--yuck.
No to Cabrera.
I love Cabrera. Guy puts the ball in play; tough to strike out; has pop. I was ticked when we didn't re-sign him back in 2014.

Heyman tweets that the Nats are already trying to resign Strasburg, and that they also want to retain Rendon.  He says we are also interested in adding someone like Bumgarner or Wheeler.
https://mobile.twitter.com/jonheyman/status/1191439254305546240?s=21

That tweet could be taken to mean that they'll sign MadBum or Wheeler if they cant re-sign Strasburg

I like this list ..

2. Anthony Rendon (3B, Age 29): He might have made more money for himself with postseason excellence since Carlos Beltran tantalized the Mets while in an Astros uniform 15 years ago. Prediction: Washington Nationals, seven years, $232 million.

3. Stephen Strasburg (RHP, Age: 31): He might have made more money for himself with postseason excellence…yeah, the Nats’ elite players really were something in October, weren’t they? Prediction:Washington Nationals, six years, $182 million.

20. Will Smith (LHP, Age: 30): When Aroldis Chapman stayed with the Yankees, it made Smith the top closer available. Prediction: Washington Nationals, three years, $40 million.

29. Howie Kendrick (IF, Age: 36): The postseason hero showed that he has plenty left in his 36-year-old tank. Prediction: Washington Nationals, one year, $6 million.

If Nick Castellanos can really be had for 18 MM AAV, I'd rather have him at first base than Will Smith and Howie

Will Smith would be a fresh addition to our bullpen.

Zimm is staying. Having Juan Soto step up into the 3rd spot is going to be quite nice. But you cant just easily replace 30+ HR and 100+ RBIs with a Kieboom. You gotta find someone like Rendon if you cant retain his services. Cabrera is a candidate because I think he can give you 25+ hr and 90 rbi.

This FA is going to be tricky because the Nats have to retain Stras because 2 ACES will take you to the playoffs.

Cabrera is fools gold.   Get rid of him

Yes me too.

27 year old 1B who can hit for close to .300 and mash 25 HR and 100 RBI.

Suspect Boras is telling Stras he shouldn't take one penny less than Max is making. Or Greinke for that matter. More like 6 for $210 Million.

Trending downward--he was released for a reason.
To open a spot on the roster for a younger guy mainly.  His numbers couldn't carry 3d base every day (.711 OPS, 80 OPS+) but he still had pop (12HRs).  His overall numbers were around league average (97 OPS+).  He'd be a guy you could project at about league average at 2d, which lets you have an option if Kieboom can't win the position.
Not Didi?
Gleyber and DJ so there's no spot up the middle. Urshela / Andujar at 3d, unless there's an upgrade.

He's supposed to be a prince of a guy too.  I still think they need to go into next year more with a righty late inning guy (Hudson's role) than another lefty to close.

TBH, I'd be interested in Will Harris maybe more than Will Smith. I want the righty set up guy, and if it isn't Hudson, Harris would be good.  FG projects him at 2 years, $20MM.  He could fill the role while Suero / Rainey grows into it. The only reason to go for Smith rather than Harris is if you want to move Doo out of the closer role and use him as a lefty set up guy in the 7th.  You would still want a reliable righty to go with Smith and Doo.

I just really am hating the idea of 10 million dollar bullpen guys.   They seem to be 50/50 at best whether they can be effective and healthy from year to year.

Harris is 34 and turns into Drew Storen in the playoffs.  Not sure a multi-year contract at 10MM AAV is a good deal there.

Whit Merrifield is my #1 target this offseason in terms of position players (not counting Rendon). Guy plays everywhere and is a good hitter that could cover a ton of spots on the roster.

Too bad he's under contract with the Royals.

well, he was only Drew Storen in games 6 & 7 v us, right?  He was good the rest of the playoffs and just gassed and overused so the hitters could get to him.

what sort of package would get him?  He'd be a guy for whom you'd start with Kieboom and move from there.  An MLB rotation piece and maybe another guy like Taylor who is 1st division 4th OF / starter in the second division?

Royals were asking for premium prospects at the deadline. They like him a lot. He's versatile. Basically, a better hitting Zobrist.

Royals need pitching in the worst way. They'd want someone who is a potential TOR guy.
