I think we just don’t know- it’s possible the lerners love winning and double down, it’s also possible that old man Lerner has a trophy, declares mission accomplished and runs the team to maximize profit. My guess is nothing changes - high, but not necessarily highest budget team- but no one outside of the Lerner family knows right now

Ironically they built up capital by staying under the threshold in 2019.  I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to go over it in 2020 if the conditions were right. 

Stras MUST stay.  He's going to be 32 in July 2020, so his market value is limited.  Beyond Stras, everything else is fluid. 

Bullpen is in need of some serious help.  This cannot be overstated.
 
It's Kieboom time at second base. I've already written off Rendon.  Third base needs to be occupied by a high quality replacement for Rendon.
 
At catcher, Zuki needs to be complemented by someone better than Rawdy Read. 

Voth showed much promise at the end of 2019.  He will likely be a good 5th starter, with Fedde as an insurance policy. 

Yes, Thames would be an excellent choice to complement Zim (assuming Zim doesn't ride off into the sunset).

Zimm is staying. Having Juan Soto step up into the 3rd spot is going to be quite nice. But you cant just easily replace 30+ HR and 100+ RBIs with a Kieboom. You gotta find someone like Rendon if you cant retain his services. Cabrera is a candidate because I think he can give you 25+ hr and 90 rbi.

This FA is going to be tricky because the Nats have to retain Stras because 2 ACES will take you to the playoffs.

Modern medicine/rehab has proven that guys can go well into their late 30s. As long as he keeps his velocity, Stras will hit 200 wins imo.

Ovechkin is 34 and could crack the top 10 in goals scored this year it seems.

I think Eric Thames would be a great addition, not just for his bat. As an offensive player, he is basically a three-true-outcome slugger like Adams. I am far from a expert at reading the various defensive metrics out there, but he seems to be a reasonably good first baseman. But beyond this, from what I've seen in interviews and a segment he did with Lauren Shehadi visiting Koreatown in NYC, his personality would be a good fit with the team. He wouldn't just complement Zimmerman on the field, but guys like Eaton and Kendrick (and I hope we keep him) in the dugout. Absent any actual Korean players on the roster, with his KBO experience and some knowledge of Korean, he could be an asset in reaching out to potential fans in Virginia's Korean community, which is 3rd largest in the nation. Thames might cost too much for the team, though.

somehow, I think 6 years, $35MM AAV, with an option for a 7th, I think gets Rendon.  Higher AAV than Arenado and I think the highest AAV for a position player.  If Rendon is real about not wanting to play too long, then maybe the AAV is the thing.  Heck, give him $36MM so it is  a higher AAV than Max, if there's an ego thing.

As for Stras, I hate going long for pitchers, so I'd hope 6 years, $30MM AAV would be good for him, but he's a total free agent.  That's still a discount to whatever stupid money NYY, SD, LAA, or PHI will put on the table, so maybe give him another opt out or two.
