And when you did he'd put on his Boras hat and say "I'm not an employee of the north pole.  Kringle does what he wants with his guys".

Matt is now a free agent.  Spencer Kieboom elected free agency yesterday when he was removed from the 40 man roster.

Matt Adams $4 million mutual option was declined, so he gets a $1 million buyout.  I don't expect him back, but thanks for the memories Big City!

I wonder what the plan is for 1B next season?  I think Zim will be back, but probably in a back-up, start against lefties, role.  Ideally, we could find a good lefthanded hitting everyday first baseman.  But I don't know if there are any good options.  Howie's a free agent too.  Love him, but I assume he really fits better with an AL team where he can DH and play occasional first and second to give other guys a rest.

Howie really enjoys being here I think. But you are right, he doesnt have the body to handle the daily grind. Howie deserves to stay but i dont think he would want a reduced role at the cost of bigger pay day potentially.

As good as Howie can hit, and Zim when healthy, why do we HAVE to get a lefty to pair with Zim?  Bring Howie back and let them split 1B duties.  Howie could play 2B every blue moon.

I don't think there is any way we let either Strasburg or Rendon leave.

Rendon will get his 35 mil a year and Strasburg will get a Max Scherzer deal. 210+ mil.

Not having to pay Zimmerman 18 mil helps too. If Zimmerman decides tonretire we can get Justin Smoak and his gold glove for cheap and hope he improves his batting average.

Decline Yan Gomes and his 9 mil and hope to bring him back with a cheaper deal too.

Bring back Cabrerra as a 2B and Howie as a 1B to platoon with Zimm and we are set. Sign Hudson to a nice 2 year deal or some other closer to pair with Doolittle. Sign clubhouse leader Parra too.

C- Gomes / Suzuki
1B- Zimm / Kendrick
2B- Cabrerra
3B- Rendon
SS- Turner / Difo
LF- Soto / Parra
CF- Robles / Taylor
RF- Eaton

1- Strasburg
2- Corbin
3- Scherzer
4- Sanchez
5- Ross

Closer- Hudson
8th- Doolittle
7th- Rainey
Elias
Suero
Guerra
Fedde/Voth/Strickland

I agree...keep the band together to defend their title!  This is a Championship Team, and if you let key pieces walk, who knows when you blend together the right group again?  As we have seen, it's not only about talent on paper.  This group is special.  Screw the luxury tax...tickets and merchandise will go way up and cover that.  Let's go for it again in 2020!

I have no idea who will play first base for the Nationals in 2020. Adams is already out, Zimmerman is not a starting MLB player anymore, and the FA market is really weak.

It seems highly unlikely that Kendrick can replicate any of his 2019 season in 2020. Same goes for Asdrubal most likely. I think it would be a mistake to keep those guys.

Howie might not hit in the .340 range again, but what makes you think he's going to tank?

I dont get the keep Cabrera crowd. let him go. Use Kendrick and Kieboom at that spot and Kendrick plays 1b also.

Because Father Time is undefeated.  I’m convinced Howie raked because he basically had a year to rest in 2018. Not convinced it’s repeatable.

You might be putting too much on Kendrick. Three days a week, max, and pinch hitting.

In MLB Network interview after game 7, he said that Kevin Long boosted his performance by correcting his stride.  Said he'd previously been "cross striding."

that was a great interview, that was when he said that when Harris entered the game he decided that he was going to look for a pitch low in the strike zone and he got it and launched it

I guess MAT has earned another year with the team.  He'll cost a bit more as a third-year arbitration but since he spent half the year in the minors, it won't be too bad.
