Stras isn't leaving. Maybe a new contract or some crap but he ain't leaving. Loves it here. Rendon probably is.

I think Stras will stay and we somehow go after Cole. Keiboom is trained for third. Garcia will be tested too until mid summer. Our middle infield will be: Kieboom - Turner - Garcia - Zim/Kendrick/Adams/Abreu (lol) / crap idk

If Rendon stays and we still add Kieboom and Garcia at some point, it'll be one of the best lineups.

While I agree Stras stays on a new contract and Rendon walks, I don't think we'll have quite so many first base options. Zimmerman plus someone who isn't named Adams/Kendrick (who should be an AL DH, since he'd be amazing), or Cabrera. Zim will be the backup/platoon candidate, but we have a new primary 1B next season. I think our only selttled infield spot is Shortstop. We'll have new guys first, second and third on opening day.

I hope we can keep our two guys, but honestly we are not the Yankees or Red Sox, winning the WS is everything to me, if they take the money and we can’t match it then I thank them with eternal gratitude and move on. Nothing will beat this for me

Bixler, Eischen, Bergmann, Morgan for Gleyber Torres
I'd walk from that deal if they asked for Short.

well, we are a high budget team that spends near the lux tax threshold.  You've got to think that Rizzo can go to Mark and say, "see, I told you we can be a perpetual contender and eventually win with what we spend.  No reason to change."  The problem is some cost are locked in, timing, and flexibility.  PB69 had a pretty decent payroll thread that shows there's definitely money to extend Strasburg assuming he opts out but that Rendon probably would put them well over the threshold.  If you take out the money that is coming off the books (RZ's $18MM or so, plus Rendon's) you probably can reallocate it to a decent first base

plus an older, credible 3d baseman or 2d baseman.  Key will  be counting on Kieboom.  Jury is out on that.

Gotta figure Howie and Adams are gone. Hopefully not much more than that.

Howie might just retire. But he probably would want to DH somewhere. Definitely for more than 4 million AAV

What kind of contract does Hudson get? Dude was money in the playoffs, but will be 33 and claims he doesn't like closing.

The Red Sox and Yankees aren't throwing around 10 year deals either.   We and they are more than happy to pay them their full worth short term, but not at the expense of being laden with a bunch of dead payroll in 5 years.

These Boras guys are going to have to decide if they want to take some well paying short term (maybe with options for security) deals to play with a franchise that is going to be competitive every year, or need a mountain of money to roll around on but settle for playing meaningless games for 10 years with the Phillies or Rangers.

I know many are writing Rendon off as gone, and if he is I will still always appreciate his part in bringing a 2019 World Series Championship into my life, but I really think the Nats will do everything they can to bring back Rendon.  That wasn't really the case with Harper.  I think Harper would've stayed if the Nats would've matched the Phillies.  Maybe Rendon wants to return to Texas and play for the Rangers?  Maybe he wants to keep playing with his boys in DC?  I just don't think money will be the deciding factor.

Man I wish the NL had a DH just so we could have another couple years of Howie.  I doubt he returns, but maybe instead of worrying about a lefty platoon with Zim at 1B we just bring both the old guys back and let them split 1B duties?  I'd rather have Zim/Howie than Zim and another Matt Adams.  No question.

If we can't retain Rendon, then there should be some money to spend on the bullpen.  If we do sign Rendon and of course re-work Strasburg, then we probably have little to spend on the bullpen and will try to find gems out of the bargain bin and then make moves at the deadline.  It made for a rocky path, but it led to a World Series Championship this year.  It's easier to find hidden cheap gems in the bullpen then replacing an Anthony Rendon.

I'd say Dozier and Adams are the biggest locks to not return out of the position guys.

The people who are thinking Kieboom and /or Garcia will be ready for 2020 are freaking delusional.

Keiboom is as ready as is he's going to be. He just hit .303/.409/.493 in almost 500 PAs in Triple A. He's mashed at every level except MLB.

Kind of like with Soto and Robles a couple years ago?  One never knows.

Why?  Turner was ready as a Rookie.  Soto was REALLY ready.  Robles had a solid Rookie year.

Bigger question is what do we do at catcher. Zuk is here for 4 million, but Gomes has a 9 million dollar team option. He's 32 and really didn't show much this season.

If Nats can't keep Rendon, they have to try to keep Howie Kendrick. He can still rake. He is good Ryan Zimmerman insurance, who will definitely be back at a reduced but not low salary.

If Howie or Rendon goes, keep Asdrubal Cabrera. Don't think you bring him back if both Rendon and Howie Kendrick are back.

No idea what the market is on Daniel Hudson. I do know the Nationals will never invest heavy into the bullpen over the offseason when almost every season it feels like they bring in good options around the trade deadline.

Matt Adams will either be back or be replaced by another lefty first baseman who can run into one and also sub in LF.

If Nationals lose Rendon, I'm not sure what they do in the lineup. Barring a move, Juan Soto's lineup protection is Howie Kendrick or Asdrubal Cabrera.

You start over at catcher.

Robles was clearly not ready, at the plate. He's also younger than Keiboom.

Had Taylor not looked so god awful in ST, it's likely that Robles would have spent most of the season in Triple A.

Rendon seems ready to move on to somewhere closer to home (TX/CA/AZ).
But that's what I thought about Harper. Bryce/Boras saw a sucker and it was too good not to take.
Arenado got 7 yr/$260M. He is 28 with a lifetime WAR of 38.7 and OPS .897.
Nats offered Rendon 7 yr/$210M. He is 29 with a lifetime WAR of 27.3 and OPS .859. But he is a much later bloomer, his last few seasons have been equal to Arenado, so it's going to take more.
