You say that as if it’s a bad thing.

It’s bad from the perspective of 1) you don’t have anyone of value and 2) for budgeting purposes you’re not faced with signing multiple superstars in the same year like we just faced.

We don't have any major free agents until 2023.

Bigger question is how much money are we going to have to throw at Betts next offseason :stir:
Eaton, Sanchez, Doo, Suzuki all roll off the payroll next year.

Eaton has a $10.5MM club option with a $1.5MM buyout.
Sanchez has $12MM club option with a $2MM buyout.
Doo & Studzuki are a free agents with no options.

Total payroll commitment to these 4 is $31MM in 2020.  Source is Cot's.

Among the interesting top 20 FAs would be Bauer, Stroman, Odorizzi, Ray for pitchers, Turner for corner infield, Brantley perhaps due to age discount. There's also of course Betts and Realmuto, but I don't see this team bidding top dollar for a position free agent in his late 20s or early 30s.

The Nats have plenty of people of value, they just aren’t becoming free agents. There wasn’t much value for the Nats having 2 of the top three names on the list for 2020.

We will probably be trading for Bregman at the trade deadline.

I wouldn't say any of those are major.

I think you're going to see a major correction when this team has some of the best pitching in baseball but cant score runs.

I think we have in-house options to replace Sanchez. Unlikely we have one for Doolittle, but I wouldn't spend much on him at that point.

Whole lot easier to get a closer at the deadline than a MOO bat

I love how Slate’s need to be contrary has obligated him to defend the Astros.

He has his own social media show....he has sought out people on Twitter who don't mention him as the best and he's a proven cheater.

Then he answers questions about it 6 times like he did over the weekend.

He's good...but he's a dbag.

If you think Bregman's not a huge doosh, You must not have watched the World Series.

The best thing was it was him who clued the Nats in that Stras was tipping his pitches in Game 6. He went back to the dugout acting like a huge doosh and telling everyone about it.
Then of course his 5 seconds stare downs of his 2 homers and then don't forget carrying the bat down to 1st base. Question is.. is there a bigger jerkoff in all of baseball?

Arenado told the Rockies to go freak themselves. Let's just do what the Yankees did and get a good player for dirt cheap. We even have the same guy the Yankees traded for Stanton!

Dirt cheap in terms of prospects, maybe, but the contract is a bit scary: he's owed 7 years, $234 million through his age-35 season, has an opt-out after '21, and has a full no-trade.   He's basically owed the same thing the Nationals refused to pay Rendon but with an opt-out and a no-trade (yes, he's a little younger).   That's pretty hard to swallow unless the Rox wanna eat some money.

:lmao: If you don't think there are a ton of people who think Adam Eaton, Trea Turner, or Juan Soto are huge douches, you're being naïve.

Well I never said that... So is it safe to assume that's what you think of those 3 guys?

I could see that about Soto because of his motions at the plate but not sure where it would come from for Eaton or Turner?

I've never heard that about Turner. But I did read things about White Sox players not getting along with Eaton before he left. But he seems to have no issues getting along with Nats players. He seems to be friends with Howie Kendrick and anyone who's a friend of Howie's is a friend of mine.

Bregman though.. he's worse than Harper.

Didn't Eaton just get caught up in the whole Adam and Drake Laroche saga?   I wouldn't really blame him too much for that, unless there was other stuff too.

Not really the same situation. The Marlins wanted to shed payroll badly. Also, Stanton didn't have an opt out for several years.

Adam Eaton called Drake LaRoche a team leader.

Eaton is a try-hard and a weird dude but as long as he keeps taking those gas station pills and winning championships he's fine.

It's a dumb thing to say, but I doubt he meant to disrespect anyone.  The Nats should have never let Drake into the clubhouse, and neither should have the White Sox.   It was a dumb idea that made people take sides and say dumb things.

He also has a childish, public, years-long spat with Todd Frazier.  Chirping through the media with a dude he was last teammates with in 2016 makes one wonder what Eaton's like on a daily basis.

Chippy. Self-assured. A pain in the ass.  That's how I assume he is on a day-to-day basis.

As long as he's getting on base nothing else matters so much. :)
