Pretty close on Ross and Elias.
Trea is the only one where there is a potential for the player and the team to be $500K apart, so it makes sense to exchange numbers and perhaps pick something in the middle.  The others probably had both sides within $100K

WP reports the Nats are still negotiating with Turner.  I wonder if they are working on a Harper-like deal to take care of his remaining years of arbitration (through 2022), or perhaps, to lock him up?

Well, he's the one player  on the team not repped by Boras, so maybe?  He's estimated 7.5 million in arbitration.  What would a Trea Turner contract look like?   7x12?   That's not too big a cbt hit on the arb years, but it is some.  Anything higher than that, and it's hurting us a bit for the next 3 years.

Do we need to start an "Extend Turner?" topic?

It should be happening now if it’s ever going to happen

Nats analytics mapped out 2 potential rosters w IDENTICAL W/L value & equal payroll cost in '20. Plan A: sign Josh Donaldson for $100M, but w risk thru age 38. Plan B: Build roster they have now. Josh waited, so Nats "moved on" AND just got lucky as Josh signed w Minn, not Braves

So the Nats offer was no longer on the table despite some of the reporting. Told ya.

Silly.

Better option: Build out the team they did and then spend money on Donaldson. Because your owners are worth billions and there is no salary cap in this sport.

Didn’t you not want to sign Donaldson?

There were rumors he wanted to potentially get away from NL East pitching. If you’re looking for crappy pitching, the AL Central is your place.

That being said, I don’t believe the Nats offered him $100 million.

I don't want to sign him if the Lerners are going to play budget games. But if we stop with the pretenses that the CBT is some sort of limitation, then by all means, shell out the money. But then, we should have done that for Rendon. Say what you want, but he doesn't walk away from 7 years, 250 million.

I think the pitching stuff was just game his agent was playing. He put up a 132 wRC+ against the NL East last season. I don't think he really cares about facing NL East Pitching vs AL Central.

I'm gonna guess we offered him something like 4/$90, with $30 million deferred.  And he took the better offer.

Agreed. I bet it took Minnesota offering the fifth year option (and no deferred money, at least I haven't seen anything stating that) and the Nats were smart to let the fifth year go. Good for Donaldson though, and I'm glad he is out of the NL East, especially since it hurts Atlanta.

I seriously wonder if talks with the Cubs will pick up whenever Bryant's service time issue gets resolved. Seriously, why the hell is that taking so long? I mean, MLB was able to investigate and punish the Astros (and even though they haven't doled out a punishment to Cora, he's already been fired) and we are still waiting on Bryant.

So, ATL now at the head of the line for Arenado or Bryant?

Zimmerman says he and the #Nats front office has been going back and forth the past few weeks. "I'm sure something will happen, it's just a matter of time."

Probably not a good sign this has been going on for so long.

He's coming back, not sure what the stress is about. We just needed to finish up the rest of the roster.
