I wondered what happened on that play.    I caught the end where Gomes told the ump, "I'm sorry." or some such thing.    I believe Smoltz talked about it a bit.

Same. That’s a shame.

Wait, the ump was caught saying to Gomes that he got up too quickly and showed him up???? He needs to be removed from this umpiring crew, that’s disgraceful!!!

Considering almost every batter tries to take a step towards first on a close ball 4 call, I agree.  It's ridiculous behavior in a Spring Training game let alone a World Series.

This. (Although I hate bad calls that favor my team just a little less than those that favor my team's opponents.)

Robles earned 1B and the chance to see what Gomes would do. I want fairness across the board. I hate bad calls that favor my team. I want the skill of the players to decide who is the better team and who deserves to be crowned champion.

#WorldSeries Game 5 Umpire Report

Name: Lance Barksdale
Correct Call Rate: 93.5%
Calls helping #Nationals: 4
Calls helping #Astros: 5
Largest miss: 3.23 inches

The rate doesn't tell the whole story. Barksdale gifted Correa a ball on an 0-2 count. A K turned into a 2 run HR.

Zimmerman got a close ball 4 call when he didn't dart towards first and instead waited for the call. Robles got a horrible strike 3 call when he took off towards first. Ump doesn't like being shown up.

It was pointed out that Hudson got a gift strike the very next inning after the umpire kermitted Robles. That only serves to give the impression that the bad calls were evenly distributed. It's the umpire's version of MSP

Should I know what MSP is? An advanced metric? Something snarky?

Meaningless Stat Padding...

Hitting a solo home run in the 8th when trailing by 7...that sort of thing...

actually it was first used by one of the imbeciles that hates Rendon (I forgot his screen name and I believe he stopped posting a couple of months ago). I just used the initials and added :whip:

"garbage time" has been around since the days of sportsfan.  Didn't he used to accuse Dunn of that?

It was the :whip: that added the pizzazz.    You had the first adaptation that I remember.

So the ump is going to decide a WS game based on his ego? Another reason for egoless robo-umps.

I think you keep the real umps but can challenge a call and go to the robot ump to overrule.
