There is no rush in this game to flail at a first pitch with RISP....what, are they going to turn off the lights? Call the game on the account of rain that has not yet arrived? No, nothing is going to happen, so why rush at the first pitch when scoring opportunities await? cannot think of a reason....now, if someone is going to say that 'gosh, the first pitch might be the best one'....well, so what? Make them throw another...but many of the Nats watched the best pitches sail by, then flailed at some woefully bad pitch inside or in the dirt, then act surprised when the ball did not zoom out of the stadium....collectively they lost plate discipline under pressure and it showed...and when one of your allegedly better hitters tries to take on the game solo, well, the results could be predicted....even the announcers lost their cool when Rendon flailed out for the third FN time in a row...personally, if I were Martinez, I would hand Rendon a pencil the next time he is strolling up to the plate with RISP and only give him a bat after the first pitch, just to send a message..
