Take this with a grain of salt, but I have read from two different sources now that there may be a deal in the works to lock up Soto for 12-13 years.  They were saying between $369M-$400M.  They didn't mention particulars, just what I have posted.  I hope it's true, but I will believe it when it happens.   :w:

taking the biggest of that deal, 12/$400M. that gives Soto an AAV of $33M, it seems low, and well below what Lindor and Trout are getting. Then again, Soto is a RF, so he's be well ahead of Harper's $27.5M and Yellich at $26M.

Hmmmm....

It's hard to imagine Boras doing that.   Soto will be a tentpole contract for his stable and it's hard to imagine him taking anything less than the highest talked about number plus a little extra!

public sources you can post links to?

There's been talk about that length but higher estimates from neutral spitballers as to what it would take.  I could easily see the Nats making an offer in the range you are talking about, but I can't see Soto taking it even at $400 million.  Which reminds me of the absurdity of the money in baseball relative to my world.

Agreed.  I have heard people speculate that Soto may be the first hlf-billion-dollar player.

Couldn't find the original article I read, but here is one from LBS:  https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/juan-soto-could-record-setting-extension-nationals/587710?amp&fbclid=IwAR2onCO_HSgtKIlciZ4Va8aQckHPBg6ij9KHGK7yGxBRy3ygWL_0JsJ6fPQ

and the twitter post the article refers to:
https://twitter.com/hgomez27/status/1463363166579089409

Again, all speculation, I just thought it would make for interesting off-season discussion.

I wonder what percent of the DR's GNP is from baseball salaries.

so if Max is getting $43M a year over 3 years, what does that do to the price for Soto? 13/$45M = $585M

Of course the Mets have Max coming off the payroll when Soto hits FA.

It still beggars belief, but the team's current value is allegedly ~$2b

if they dont resign soto this team becomes orioles south. just as plain as day. nats are gonna be a bad team for a long team if they cannot keep the only player that excites anyone to come to games.

yes.  I don't want to start hearing in 2024 that "Well, Brady House is ready and we can build around him after Soto leaves."

WHAT?  Jason Bergmann left years ago.

On second thought, they could bring him back!  He's only maybe 40 or so and he can't be up to much.

Start at 13/500mil. Keep knocking a year off until you get to 11/500mil. I'm guessing this 10/500mil is the sweet spot with some minor deferrals.

Strikes a coming so who cares for now.

Soto's not worth 1/2 billion bucks.  $400M is high enough for an at-best average fielding corner outfielder, regardless of hitting ability.

Fine.  Let him go and see of you can replace his 6/7 WAR per year.

His defensive WAR metrics don't reflect his actual shortcomings.  Defensive metrics in general are crude.   Soto makes the routine plays and charges the ball well.  Everything else he does in the outfield is unacceptable.

Uhhh, he is Dominican Ted Williams. Who cares how poorly he fields. It certainly doesn't negate that he is arguably the best bat in MLB.

There were seven 6+ WAR players this season. One of them made the playoffs.

The Angels have had an 8+ equivalent WAR player every season over the last ten years, save one. They have done jackcrap.

Well brace yourself because they aren’t signing him. After not paying Harper, Rendon, Turner etc how anyone thinks the Lerners are going to pay for Soto is beyond me? They got the old man his World Series ring. The kids don’t care about winning.

Anyone else think Soto could be an above-average first baseman at some point down the line when he slows down?
