I will be very curious what they do with Seager.  Only one of them can play shortstop.  If they re-sign Seager, then does Trea go someplace where he can play short?  Or does Justin Turner retire and Cory Seager move to 3rd and Trea go to short?  Or, in a twist, if JT retires, do they sign Cory this year and Kyle next?

Who would play 2B for the Dodgers if Seager is at SS and JT does not retire .

I can’t wait to see Soto try and steal home next year.

Muncy

Or Lux, probably in some combination depending on the mix-and-match positional carousel.

Has anyone ever turned down an extension that would be a he biggest guarantee in the history of the sport at the time?  I find it hard to believe that boras would turn down 15/$500M and if he did I would imagine Soto would tel him to look at those dollars.  Rizzo wants to win.  Soto is not an idiot.  He loves baseball and knows that the best contenders are sustainable.  To create a sustainable contender you need prospects and org depth.  It would be irresponsible for Soto to view a 2-3 year rebuild as phoning it in and not trying to win long-term.

So who do we get from the Dodgers in a trade?  :hysterical:
I actually thought maybe Soto went to LA to bring Max back to DC.

So what happens two or three years from now when we don't develop players and the Lerners cry poor about having money?

Also, who was the last position player on a monster deal to make a League Championship Series?

By how much, exactly - six inches, or are we going for the full foot?... ;)

He signed with the Dodgers. Do we wish we had signed him? Because, honestly, I dont. Not at that price point.

If we cant develop talent, having Soto is completely pointless. We will basically become the NL version of the Angels. Except the Lerners will pinch pennies, as they already got their championship

It does figure to be a difference maker. Even the Yankees in their contending years did it largely with a base from their farm

It's a strawman to say we can't both pay Soto what he deserves and develop talent. like yeah of course we can't win without developing our own talent around soto but the whole point is to lock in the best hitter in the league and for rizzo to convince mark that throwing money at development is better than free agents every year. it's pretty much the best way to do it anyways and we're set up for it now.

That’s true. Current Braves. Astros. Phillies division title teams from 2007-11. All built around homegrown talent. The big question is what talent do they besides Soto now that Turner is gone.  The guys on the rise are still question marks. So puts them in a difficult spot.

Doesn't matter.  We have legions of Bud Light woo woo girls to keep operating income up, and they want to see dongs.  Spend it.

Asked Scott Boras if there is an offer the Nationals could make right now to get Juan Soto to sign an extension. He said Soto wants to win first and foremost, and any discussions would begin once ownership shows Soto they are serious about contending.
