Zero or one?
Anyway, good point.

Thanks - think my brain was going for 'less than two outs in the inning,' and switched to the number of outs that already occurred. Ended up with a dumb statement on my part, and I appreciate the catch.

Tied for number 102 all time so he has a bunch.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/GIDP_career.shtml

He’s played in about 10 full seasons worth of games so it comes out to about 20 GIDPs per full season.

I mean, given who else is on that list, i don’t think it’s really something to be ashamed of being on it.

A much more interesting stat would be percentage of GIDP  out of opportunities

The stat is based on that.

Agree. The other stats JCA provided data on (wGDP) shows that he was below average.

I'm guessing Ramos is on it because he is the slowest guy in the league.   A high strikeout guy would never make it up that list.   I guess you have to be relatively slow, and put lots of balls in play to be good at grounding into DPs.   I don't know if it is really a stat to care about.   Kind of like a team leading the league in turning double plays isn't anything to brag about.

It’s always better to get two outs rather than one when you are on defense. Always better to avoid a double play when on offense. How critical? I don’t know for sure.

Slow + hard hit balls = A lot of GIDP

Better yet to not allow baserunners in the first place.

I seriously wonder how good Michael Morse could have been if he had been around today in the try to  hit flies era.  I think he always had more GBs than balls in the air.

edit - career 48% GB rate

I think it will be Freeman, but the OPS and average have to count for Soto. Interesting that it's Seager and not Betts from LAD

FWIW, with MAT opting for free agency and Scherzer / Strasburg signed, Soto now is the only other Boras client on the roster.  4 years of arbitration, but the only sort of contract I could see Soto signing is one that takes him through his arbitration years.  That's what Boras and Harper did.

The FG post about how his closest comparable is Ted Williams was

I disagree because he plays better d and runs a bit.

Soto named to first team all-MLB other outfielders were Trout and Betts.

only way he stays is if he marries one of Ted's grandkids and the family agrees to leave him the team in all their wills.

Seager named second-team, behind Tatis, Jr., at SS.  Suppose the postseason gave him the edge, but Turner probably more deserving for regular season.

You could make the argument that Turner deserved to be on first team, given that this is supposed to be a regular season award. If you include postseason, Seager should have been first team. Tatis is very good, but this was the result of hype.

Anyone on here know a way we can arrange for them to meet?

It's like everything else in life...enjoy it while you can...

Soto re-signing here some day would likely bring me greater joy than Royce leaving did...

I didn't think that was possible.
