I'm hyped for his .320/.450/.650 season next year with 40 HR and 120 RBI.

30 homers, 80 RBI, and 200 walks unless someone else hits behind him.

I ain't picky.  There are a number of decent options if there's a DH, but there's precious little outside of that.

one reason I like Realmuto is it takes away from a rival.

That’s what Cohen says. He has lots of money and apparently willing to spend it. Hard to see the Lerners paying for a catcher when they would not pay Rendon. JTR will probably cost about $25 million per year. They would have no money to upgrade other positions.

i highly doubt we get realmuto.  he's gonna be hella pricey.  cruz would be 1-2 years high aav.  outside of cruz, the next best option might be springer (as much as i hate the asstros).

Soto is the 4th player to lead his league in avg, obp, and dog Ina. Single season

Soto is the youngest player with the batting title in the history of the national league.

Soto just had a top 40 single season obp

In the batter's box. If you discount Soto only played ~40 games.

Is Trout really that good defensively?  I've seen his highlight plays, but is a 235 lb, 29 yo really more than a passable CF?   I'd imagine Robles and Taylor get to a lot of balls a step or two out of his reach.  He gets such a WAR boost from playing CF, but is that really where he should be as measured by really helping your team win games?

I'd love to see Trout playing CF in 162 games on a pennant winning team.   Would he put up the lofty numbers when he's being pitched to carefully?   Would he really look like an above average CF in games that matter?

Oh, and I still can't get over how shocking it is that replaced a generational talent with someone an order of magnitude better.   It's not even debatable any more that Soto is a notch above.

He’s been among the gold glove finalists a few times. And the stat geeks who sit there and measure plays obviously think he is good. Just because the is big does not mean he isn’t fast.  He’s the best in the business overall. Just relax.

I'm relaxed.  Trout puts up a bunch of great numbers playing meaningless games at 77 degrees with low humidity and doesn't even half to take a shower after.  I don't buy that he'd be anywhere near a 10 WAR guy if you traded him to the Yankees to play center field.

There aren't others of that ilk.  Yankees and Red Sox stars are always going to be under the biggest spotlight.

Also Los Angeles.  Hollywood went to Don Drysdale for every baseball player they needed for tv from 1965-80

The problem is that DC is a transient town - the rich people tend to move here with their preferences and move again for retirement

There is a strong lower and middle class who create traditions, but the Nats never reached out to them and kept booking country artists to play after games

Cool interview with Soto in which he discusses his early days of baseball, how they thought he was too slow, and how they wanted to turn him into a pitcher:

This season has huge asterisk.  :mg:

Now would be a great time to lock him up for the next 12 or 13 years.

I doubt anything will happen with the CBA negotiations coming up after next year.

this year he had the 25th best ops ever for a single season.  6 of the seasons ahead of him were juiced seasons.

Great hitter. But he only had 196 plate appearances this year.  Not a full season.

This. It's kind if hilarious that everyone is anointing Soto better than Trout, Stevenson is an everyday player, Kieboom is a bust, and Garcia is a star, all based on less than a third of a season of play.
