Juan Soto joins Andruw Jones, Miguel Cabrera and Mickey Mantle as the only guys to homer in a Series before their 21st birthday.  :worship:

Good luck since he's a Boras guy.   On the other hand, he only made $578k this year, and won't get much more than that the next 2 years.   Maybe they can figure out some kind of deal that gets him paid now, and gives us a couple of his free agent years.

Soto is all over the news this morning. It's pathetic that people are just now hearing his name.

Boras is seeing dollar signs  :$$$:

A guaranteed $200 million in the bank to hedge against performance/injury? Boras May advise against it, but Soto would be insane to say no

I always wonder how Boras convinces his guys to take that risk almost every time.   Does the Boras corp have a war chest that they'll pay out if something happens before a guy reaches FA?   The risk/reward equation makes sense for an agent with lots of horses in the stable, but it seems like it would makes little sense for the individual athletes.   There's no way I'd turn down a guarantted 200-250 million for a chance to make 300-350 million but could lose it all with a bad injury or extended slump.

Soto’s playing on a 1-year/$578,300 deal this season. So, Rizzo was asked, have you thought about extending him long-term now?

“Let’s just give him 10 years and $180M or $200M or whatever the hell it is, let’s just give it to him now, let’s just end this one, right?” the Junkies asked.

“We would give him 10 years, $180M tomorrow morning for sure,” Rizzo told the Junkies, “but I don’t think he’s going to accept that.”

They have insurance policies to guard against injury. Too bad they don't have them for poor performance ( Chris Davis)

Boras probably banks on athletes’ hubris - sure a decent percent of guys fail to ever get that contract, but each guy is probably convinced that won’t be them

I'm still interested what his peak is. I don't think he will ever put together a 2015 Bryce Harper season, but I could see him being a consistent 40 homer, high walk rate player who doesn't strike out too much. His defense shows flashes of being really solid.

One strength he has over Harper is he doesn't seem as streaky.

Really? I think his ceiling is Barry Bonds high.

If only we had the TV network resources of the NYY, Red Sox and others of that ilk. "They" always say DC is a "major market" team, but I still need convincing.

Braves gave Acuna 8 years 100 mill buying out his pre-arb, arb, and first few free agent years.

I thought Harper would be a 40/40 Gold Glover. That hasn't happened. Anthony Rendon is the one hitter who ever has turned out how I thought he could in a perfect world. I keep my hopes low.

One huge strength for Soto is how patient he is at the plate. I think it was in 2016 when the Cubs broke Bryce Harper by just refusing to pitch to him. I think Juan Soto would be fine just jogging down to the first after nonstop pitch arounds.

I'm still not convinced he's the truth. I need to see one more season of great production before I anoint him. :stir:

Bryce Harper went in a horrible slump. I think that was the series where I was ready to launch Ryan Zimmerman into the sun for being stunningly bad.

what was the excuse for the long slump in the first half of 2018?

I already said Harper was streaky.

Even if Soto's highs are never as high as Harpers, I'll be happy avoiding the valleys and canyons.

so he's streaky but that streak was due to being walked by the cubs? :lmao:

There aren't others of that ilk.  Yankees and Red Sox stars are always going to be under the biggest spotlight.

If you think their approach to him played no part in his stats taking a nosedive after that series, then we can agree to disagree. I think Juan Soto would have taken those walks comfortably and definitely wouldn't have thrown a temper tantrum and picked up a suspension a few days later.

Juan Soto seems like he is a much more consistent batter. Harper had a few months as a Nat where he had a cumulative OPS under .700. I don't think we'll see that with Soto.
