it's his actual age. :)

His birthday is October 25, maybe that has something to do with it?

Mike Rizzo says there have been internal discussions with ownership about extensions for Juan Soto and Trea Turner and how they are going to approach discussions with each player's representation. Rizzo adds they should have long-term offers in the near future.

An argument for Soto being worth far more than $400 million through 2035.

This article builds of the fangraphs analysis to explore how he ranks vs retired players.  Short summary - Juan Soto projects to good at baseball.

What I keep coming back to in my mind is eventually we'll be through this Pandemic and the our local TV contract can't get worse in the next few years. A mega contract right now that is jaw dropping may in five years be something we're glad the Nationals locked in.

I feel like we have a good shot this offseason, another solid shot next offseason, but if he is going into 2023 on an arbitrated one year contract? He'll wait to hit free agency.

I'm trying to enjoy him while he is here. Three more seasons is a long time.

Great article.  I’m curious about the sprint speed improvement it mentions

How many teams sign a player to a mega deal and win a championship with them?

tampa bay. Whoever signs LeBron.

Baseball? How about the Dodgers last year? How about Scherzer / Corbin and 2019?  Sale and Price in 2018?

I don’t know. But the Nats with Max come to mind.

Mookie maybe.
Sale was a 12 million tax hit.
And the Nats afforded Corbin because they didnt sign Harper to the mega deal

Now Lindor was signed, Soto can only be more expensive. If I was his representation, I'd see all these insane contracts and tell him to wait. It can only skyrocket further.

Because there is no way that injury could derail a career.

I don’t quite understand the mentality guaranteed 3-400 million or maybe 5-600 million with possibility of zero or close to it. Boras advises them to wait, because well if they do hit that jackpot, it’s a ton more money for him and if they don’t, well, he’s already set. But it’s seemed to work out for his high profile clients at least.

I always wondered if Boras kept some kind of kitty, or gets them some kind of insurance to for guys like Soto.   You're right, the risk/reward equation doesn't play make sense to each individual player.
