Anibal Sanchez Appreciation Thread
« Topic Start: October 12, 2019, 12:05:28 AM »

The Atlanta Barves made a huge mistake in not keeping Anibal Sanchez.

They were vanquished by the Cardinals in the NLDS, and Anibal just pitched a one-hitter in NLCS Pennant series Game 1 at St. Louis.

I did not want the Nats to sign Anibal Sanchez.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

One of the more dominating pitching performances in history.  Zuckerman notes only one ball was hit harder than 95mph

He started off the season a bit rocky. Went on the DL, and has been fantastic ever since.

The Cards had no answer for him in game 1. All they could do was intentionally let pitches hit them.

I don't know how you can get that many balls hit in the air, and they were all so catchable and soft that none went out.  I don't think there were many on the warning track.  goal for hitters now is to hit balls in the air, and Sanchez made these guys look foolish.

Homers are way down in the playoffs. There is rampant speculation that MLB has changed the ball. Plus none of the balls were hit very hard and Busch is a pitchers’ park.

Thank the 40 degree temps for that. They drove 3 balls that might well have gone out on a warm night, but they died instead. I hope the cold continues out there because Scherzer's gopher likes to feed in October. That said, Sanchez was great.

The weather won't be that cool for the NLCS games at Nats Park.  Calling for evening temps in the 50's & 60's

Quality Start if I ever saw one.

Game score of 81, which is good when you consider he only stuck out 5.

Sanchez has to be the most underappreciated Nat this year, by far.  He has been so steady since returning from the DL, but he has stayed under the radar behind the big 3.  He also seems to be the leader in the clubhouse, especially for our non-American players.

Without Sanchez and Parra and the non baseball contribution they both bring to the table we wouldnt still be in this thing.

(and his baseball contributions are pretty dang good too. )

He's the face of the child literacy program at Arlington Public Libraries. At Arlington Central Library there is a big banner outside with his face on it that says "hit a home run - read a book".

Cards obviously should have read more books.

He hit more batters than batters hit him."

I thought he was a smart back of the rotation signing. His regular season was better than expected and he has been elite this postseason.

I was speaking with a friend at lunch today and I tried to come up with any Nationals PITCHING performance in the playoffs that could be equal to Sanchezs' last nite. Zimmerman in 2014 ? Scherzer Wednesday nite? Strasburg in 2017? I know this is subjective but feel free to post. Doesn't have to be a win either.

Zimmermann in 2014 would've had my vote prior to last night.
