I don't expect them to care what we think nor to consult fans on decisions like who should be the manager. I DO expect them to make rational decisions. This decision essentially tanks the 2019 season. That's not rational.

Depends on the goal of the decision, if the intent is to win more games in 2019 bringing Martinez back is not a choice that anyone would make. So what is the true motivation? Based on this decision, along with the news from last week that Janes reported that the Nats plan to not even come close to the salary cap the team appears to be heading into a rebuild.

Like I said, "rational". That isn't rational thinking. Yes, if there's going to be a rebuild then keeping the cheap manager in place is rational. A rebuild at this stage is completely irrational and I don't believe that's the plan. On the other hand, if the plan is to win, then keeping the cheap manager, because he's cheap, is irrational thinking. So I can't figure out what's going on.

The playoffs are showing exactly why Dusty was let go. He doesn't survive in this environment.

Dusty is ancient history, the discussion isn't about him, it's about whether Martinez is fit to manage. But since you mention it, if Dusty was let go because he couldn't get past the the first round of the playoffs, why is Martinez retained when he cannot even get to the playoffs? It's not a new question, I know, but nobody has answered it.

Because they aren’t going to admit a mistake after one year. A slow start and he is gone.

Because there is no answer, other than the fact that they won't get anyone good because it's a certified crapshow and if they screwed up this hire so badly, I have no reason to expect they won't screw up another. At least Martinez has some experience now which is probably more than you can say for whoever is going to be brought in. If he sucks in 2019 I imagine he will be canned in short order followed by Rizzo.

Because this season's inability to reach the playoffs is because of the injuries and complete lack of performance by the players.

I know you're fairly obtuse, but you're comparing one year of failure to two years of playoff failures with the Nats and years upon years of chokes and failures with other teams.

True. Bottom line is Martinez was a poor hire, did a poor job, and as fans all we can do is hope that he somehow morphs into a capable manager next year.

If the roster isn't significantly improved (pitching, catching, 2nd Base) over the current group, Martinez will be set up for failure in 2019. If the luxury tax threshold is the reason again for not making the necessary deals, who gets blamed for that?

I actually think that assuming we make at least some decent moves/basic-level moves this offseason, we're going to be better than 2018 even though on paper we will look worse.

He's trying to avoid the "little things" crutch, substituting "fundamentals" in its place, up until the end when he went with a burst of little things. Does he know that they went 18-24 in one run games, so winning half of them still would have put them out of the wild card? At least no promises of a World Series victory so far this year, that was a staple of his interviews last off season.

The comment about having a spring training day with no hitting, he's mentioned that at least a couple times. Someone should clue him in that that is just a gimmick, not really that much different from the camels. He's not going to turn this team around with some brilliant trick.

The response that concerned me most was when he said that players avoided him last year. That doesn't make any sense. Guys are competing for playing time, you would think that they'd be wanting to get in the manager's ear. Even if he is the most annoying boss on the planet, he fills out the line up card, he makes the call to the bullpen, and he lobbies Rizzo for guys he wants on the 25 man.
