But he wanted some work, for he had been out for a couple of weeks.  It was a no stress situation and the injury was a fluke.

Let's pitch our only healthy closer in a 15-0 game, and then he gets hurt. Brilliant Davey!

The season is over. Herrera is a FA at years end. What does it matter when we use him?

It was in the postgame presser that Herrera would be on a strict 15 pitch limit, presumably to keep him available for potential work today/tomorrow if the situations arose. Zuckerman reported it too:

I think we have all seen closers come in when it is not a save situation because they had been sitting too many days and needed the work. There are plenty of reasons to criticize Martinez but this isn’t one of them.

Quote
Kelvin Herrera entered Manager Dave Martinez’s office at Citi Field on Sunday morning with a request: He wanted to pitch in Sunday’s game against the New York Mets, no matter the situation. Herrera, who had not pitched in five days, needed the work. So Martinez obliged, inserting the right-hander in the ninth inning with Washington leading 15-0. The plan, Martinez said later, was for Herrera to throw a maximum of 15 pitches. Koda Glover was warm and waiting.

I hope davey is back.  Mostly just to irritate a bunch of people here.   :hysterical:
wouldn't it be better to have a good manager so we can have a winning season?

I don't get the silence from the majority of the fan base, especially in the past couple weeks, it's like the fire sale that Martinez caused now excuses him for his team's crap performance.

Lerner is going to keep this guy, as things stand we are heading for another down year, maybe we'll be healthier but Martinez isn't about to suddenly learn how to run a ball club. If we want a new direction this is the time to be loud and clear.

Martinez is dumb and he is not a leader and no amount of learning on the job will ever change that this team needs a good manager

You mean Casey Stengel and Yogi Berra did not have advanced degrees?

A manager will not make that much difference.  Need some signings and some guys to stay healthy next year.  If they don't start well, he will be fired then.

We should all hope Baker gets hired by some other team so we can be rid of this tzinc clown who is constantly stroking Baker's cock.

I’m a Dusty fan and hated that he got fired, but this guy is taking to a whole different level.

Davey Martinez being a bad manager doesn’t suddenly excuse Bakers playoff failures. We made the correct decision moving on from Dusty, unfortunately they made the incorrect decision hiring Davey.

I think it’s actually the hubris of fans and the Nats that thought the playoffs was a given. But that’s just me. Not like I wasn’t saying this when they hired Martinez.

I totally agree with this, but I also felt like they needed a change at manager.

I think the players thought they were making the playoffs as well. That was part of the problem.

Fans got that hubris from Mike Rizzo. We shut down Strasburg in 2012 so we would have him for future world series runs.

Then Stras continued to shut himself down every season thereafter

Yep, it's like Rizzo fed the puppy off his plate and was upset that the dog begged at the dinner table.
