What did we say about giving Martinez ideas.
Elephants are far more expensive and high-maintenance than camels. So I wouldn't worry too much, the budget wouldn't support it.

Nationals record with Mike Rizzo as GM: 827-759

Oakland over the same time: 797-790
Tampa Bay over the same time: 826-762

Yea, imma stick with Rizzo taking a bottom feeding, consecutive 100 loss team and turning them into perennial division champs.

Oakland and TB have never had the green light -- like Rizzo has had -- to spend a lot of money. Big difference.

And Rizzo has had far more success than most other teams that have "had a green light"

Martinez just matched Baker's loss total from 2017 and there is a week left in August.

I'm amazed it took this long.

3 straight games without a run. A new Nats record! Impressive considering the terrible Nats teams of the past. This is proof that those 100 loss teams played with more heart and pride than this group of zombies.

It’s actually really hard to explain because, like you said, they’re really talented...We’ve got a good group of guys that I know can hit.

I'm just trying to imagine how Frank Robinson or Davey Johnson or Dusty Baker would have reacted to a third straight shut out. Robinson would be spitting fire. Johnson would be naming names, speaking out on who from his team is not performing to his expectations. Baker wouldn't have allowed this to happen in the first place. Martinez is a freaking loser.

Lol, Baker wouldn't have allowed this to happen?!?! He just gonna magically infuse them with hitting?!?! Why didnt he jusust not allow Jason Werth to not go hitless for Games 1-4?

How many teams have a green light? Boston, NYY, the cubs and the LA teams. Of those, Boston and the Cubs have both had far more success. The dodgers have more playoff appearances and a pennant.  The Yankees won the World Series in 2009 and have more layoff appearances. He’s had more success than the angles in his tenure- I guess was more success than 1 out of 5 teams is far more than most in your book

I am neither a supporter of DM nor a detractor. I originally posted after his hiring that I thought he was more qualified than Cora , Boone and Kepler as a rookie manager having served under Maddon for ten years. I would have liked Giardi but he was taking the year off. My question is what would any of the above "rookies" been able to achieve with this group of under performers? Dusty might have eked out a few more wins but he would never have taken us to the promised land. If he couldn't do it in '16 and '17 with less injuries and better performances by Zim , Stras , MAT and Difo why would any of you think that '18 would be any different?

Dusty should have been given one more year. If they did not make the World Series then let him go and then go after an experienced manager. This team has shown over and over they only perform with experienced managers and eat rookies for breakfast lunch and dinner.  Absolutely poor reading of what they had by ownership

Dusty is gone, into the ash heap of history. It's time to let him go and move forward not backwards.

Hell, the freakin' Marlins won two World Series in a 7 year period. We can't even get to one.

Davey needs to go.  Here's hoping they finish season under .500 at this point.

Maybe make them perform?  When one or two players underperform, it's those players' at fault.  When a whole team underperforms, the manager is doing something wrong.

Dusty might have eked out a few more wins but he would never have taken us to the promised land.

I honestly don't care as much about the promised land, as I do about today's game. "a few more wins" would have given me reason to watch it. As it is I'll go mow the lawn.

Davey went up to Juan Soto this morning and told him he was thinking about giving him the day off today. Soto looked back at Davey and said, “No!!!” Soto has now started 46 straight games, but doesn’t want a breather.

It’s one thing to let Bryce call the shots. It’s another to let a 19 year old make decisions for you.

Let's pitch our only healthy closer in a 15-0 game, and then he gets hurt. Brilliant Davey!

I don't have an issue there, managers need to listen to players and I want a 19-year old to play everyday unless he also thinks he needs a day off. "Thinking about" giving him the day off doesn't equate to "decision was made but he was intimidated by an angry Soto talking him out of it". I have plenty of areas to blame Davey for, that isn't one of them.
