Five losses plenty of blame to go around. Harper deserves his share despite being our best hitter. Highlights the need to make Baker an offer for one last shot.
the lerners could save a couple million a year by letting WNFF manage via live voting
For better or worse Dave Martinez is the manager for the foreseeable future. This team just needs to kick it in gear, hearing they're "playing good baseball" reminds me of the "it's early" mantra the team kept chanting in 2013, practically right up to the Barves clinching the division. At some point there needs to be some sense of urgency with these guys.
They showed a lot of faith in MAT by not moving him and selling high. In addition they are batting him without protection. As sure as the sun rising, MAT is going to be swinging. It’s who he is. Idk if he ever changes from that. But having him in situations that allow him to be pitched around only hurts him.He may be too comfortable because of the Nats faith. He loses time to Goodwin may light that fire.
If Dave said "They're playing good baseball, well, I'd have to wonder which team he was talking about.
MAT not being moved may have had less to do with Nat's faith in him than what they may have been asking in return. I like MAT...he's a more than solid outfielder, but his AB's are generally pretty shaky...At this point, I'd start Goodwin...he's pretty capable...and since we have him, why not use him? I actually would have traded him this offseason...
I believe, quite easily (and without over-reacting just for the sake of over-reacting), but...quite easily, I certainly have not seen anything that impressed me, at all, about him...and, certainly, nothing that was lacking with having kept Dusty.
There's plenty of room for liking or not liking the way Dusty manages, for liking or not liking the way Davey does.
The thought crossed my mind that we may have hired Martinez based on Maddon's record.
Brain dead, stupid decision to allow Scherzer to steal that base. Having the most valuable player in the franchise running the bases in the rain was just idiotic.
That stolen base was basically pure joy. It was fun, exciting and a good baseball play in a close game. Leave it to you and this forum in general to try to suck all of the fun out of something that was pretty much loved by everyone. I mean why even have him hit if you think it’s dumb for him to run bases.Precision trolling indeed...
That thought just NOW crossed your mind?
Not only that, but Scherzer did it on his own. What, are they going to tell him he is not allowed to steal?
Yes, that's what Dusty and Matt told him. Do NOT steal.
That is what any sane manager would say. We owe the guy over a hundred million dollars to throw the ball, not run the bases. He gets hurt and our season is over. Martinez wants to be a cool guy in the clubhouse. It didn't even make sense to risk the out with the top of the order coming up. No need to try to manufacture a run in that situation, just load them up and get Harper to the plate.
I thought we hired Martinez for better game management.
I thought we hired Martinez for better game management. He's not doing so hot in extra innings.
