Do everything the manager asks and get sent down. Clear message being delivered personally to the farm.

His ERA since the start of last year is over 5, he walks guys constantly and can't consistently get LH out. It was either option him or DFA another arm.

Sammy’s been overworked and it shows.

Do everything the manager asks and get sent down. Clear message being delivered personally to the farm.

Nobody’s saying he shouldn’t be disappointed — he should— but baseball is a cruel business sometimes and they all know it. He’s the only one with options and they all know it.

Has any Nats fan ever REALLY felt confident when Sammy entered a game, in any season? I know I haven't. Symbolic of the Nats very mediocre relief corps.

I don't  think  Martinez told him to pitch like crap..........but maybe he did because Martinez reckoned Joe Madden would use reverse  psychology with Solis.........but why did Dusty tell Solis to pitch like crap in the playoffs? ??????????
We will have to wait for the book to come out I guess

@jorgecastillo Martinez on starting Murphy at 2nd base for the first this season today: "I really believe he’s our second baseman, and he’s back. So if he wants to play then, you know what, it’s time for him to go out there and play second base, see what he can do and see where we’re at."

Player's coach, a real good guy.

Iirc, Sammy was ok when he wasn’t pitching every other day.

So, Murph was too crippled last night to PH for Reynolds in the 8th and play 2 innings at 1B, but he's fine to start at 2B a half day later?

most of the time he doesn't pitch an entire inning so if he can't work that often and can't pitch an entire inning and isn't dominant against lefties, what the freak good is he?

This team is so gutless. No heart. No killer instinct.

It's the main reason they keep getting owned in the playoffs.

I have done a complete reversal in the first 1/2 of the season.  Martinez has to go.  He is a disaster overseeing a lifeless, uninspired team.  The guy is lost.

My point was fan (and managerial) confidence. If 50% of the time he's OK; the other 50%, he doesn't get the job done that, to me, is a reliever I don't wanna see. If he can't pitch every other day to one batter (or maybe two), he has no career as a relief pitcher..

Martinez and mostly the nationals are lucky that the city doesn't give a crap right now. We are still celebrating the Stanley Cup win and people just sorta don't care about mid summer baseball. Not even the all star game looks to be exciting.

That is something that has been said about many different iterations of this team over the past few years and over the tenures of multiple managers. At some point, doesn't the blame have to shift from the managers to the veteran guys like Zimm, Harper, Rendon, Stras, and Gio who have been around for a long time and thus are probably responsible for the locker room attitude?

Yes.  The Giants Tim Hudson called us and said we had nothing between our legs.  Ouch.

Davey isn't going to get fired, but we're long past the point of needing to do something to shake things up, and that IMHO means firing Long and trading for Ramos.

Firing Long would be a useless and futile gesture. It takes a coach months to get to know the players. The screw up was firing Schu. Only thing that can be done now is to let Long keep working with the guys and for the FO to give the coaching staff the authority to bench guys who don't follow the program. No chance that happens, the Nats have the same core issue as the Redskins, star players have more pull with ownership than the coaching staff does.

Nope. Clearly it's the coaches.

You see, if dave would have removed Gio in the fifth then we would have obviously won todays game.

Forget the message that a move like that would have sent to the clubhouse. How...
1. Management doesn't trust Gio to throw 5 innings or to work out of a jam. That he is weak.
2. Management doesn't believe the offense will score again for a minimum of 4 innings.
3. The Pitching staff as a whole has no leash. Management expects and the team needs near perfection from the staff to be in a winning situation.

Apparently it's ok to wear down the bullpen like the Phillies did. Don't think about how the Phillies have a day off tomorrow and the Nationals have to play 14 straight after this game.

It's best that we as Nationals fans say things that make no sense. For example say "dave is an idiot for taking out a pitcher under 80 pitches". Then immediately say "dave is an idiot for having pitchers throw so many pitches.
