If the Padres are keeping their top prospects and not eating much contract, why is boston doing the trade?
Boston isn't doing the trade unless SD agrees to eat more of Meyers' contract. Olney reported a few days ago that the Red Sox are requiring that anyone who wants Betts must also take Price or Eovaldi at full salary.
Betts makes $27 million this year (his final year of his contract) and ownership wants to get the team under the salary cap.
