Who would have thought (throughout the 2019 season) Maddon would be gone and dave would still be employed?     Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeriste I would have missed that one.

I don't see that he has had any coaching or managerial experience

Aaron Boone--this is the new trend.  Hire from the broadcast booth.  Experience is not needed because we have stats geeks.

Jeez … he's kind of buddies with some of those guys, isn't he?

That was the first thought I had as well. I don’t think the results will be good.

Why even bother with changing from Maddon when they go with a guy who will probably be more of the same given that he played with most of these guys?

Girardi to Phillies.

Good move for them.  Interesting that his last WS win came against Philly.

I don’t think they have a chance though until they can McFail and Klentak.

That’s stupid. There is no situation you let the best hitter in baseball bunt :mg:

Honestly surprised it took this long. That Archer trade was terrible.

So was NOT trading Vazquez, that was epically awful.

If you assume they knew about his legal issues, then yes. But I don't think they did. So they had one of (if not the) best relievers in baseball, at a cost controlled rate, in his prime. They wanted a big piece, similar to what the Yankees demanded for Chapman. I don't think they were wrong to hold for that, from a baseball perspective.

And I think that if they had known about his legal issues, MLB would have slammed them for acting in such a dubious way.

It's tough to prove that someone knew something without concrete evidence (emails, texts, a whistleblower with those things), and acting like they had a hot potato they just wanted to dump would certainly have raised flags after the fact once the troubles came out. Whether they knew or not, they had to treat him publicly like what he was - an excellent reliever, with cost control and many good years ahead of him - or they absolutely would have been the subject of some sort of investigation.

Disagree.  With the use of the infield shift so much these days, an easy bunt single down the 3rd or 1st base lines can be worthwhile.

That’s stupid. There is no situation you let the best hitter in baseball bunt :mg:
