Dude, we're playing with house money.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?  That because we won a wild card game the season is a success, whether we win this series or not?  That's just total bullcrap.

Sorry. I worded it wrong. Having to play the best team is better in a five game series. It’s better to get the Dodgers now.

So I agree with you.

Yep. Winning three games from a better team is easier than winning four. See, I'm a numbers guy after all. :hysterical:

let's see how Corbin does tonight.  He's done well in Chavez Ravine.

BTW, Svrluga has a nice piece up in the Post saying, basically, get on the back of Strasburg and ride that horse.  Says he's a cross between a Clydesdale and a thoroughbred in the playoffs.  On game 2, he says you could try him as a starter on 2 days rest for as many as he can go knowing  he can be available behind Corbin in Game 5 (or start), or you could make him available for backing up Sanchez and hope to have him start game 4 or 5.

As for Sanchez, he starts whichever of Game 2 or Game 4 that Stras doesn't.  I don't start Corbin Game 4.

It's this moment, this playoffs, that we envisioned when we drafted Strasburg with the #1 overall pick all the way back in 2009.

He's been injured, and then protected, and then overshadowed all these years.

But now is the time.

Absolutely. He looked unhittable against the Brewers. And easy 3 innings. He should be ready to go for Game 2. Sanchez would be a bad decision. Not saying Sanchez would have a bad start, but it's just a matter of playing your best hand. Lay it all out there and leave nothing to chance.

I choose a rested Sanchez over rushing Strasburg. Give Strasburg game 3, which will either be for the series lead or to keep the thing alive.

Game 3 could also be for the series sweep. #sunshinesquad

I mean, if you're not going to start him, we need him to be more than just a long man. All season, he was pretty strong the first couple innings of game. I know he's never relieved, but if you can bring him in to an inning fresh, it's basically a start. He'd be a strong bridge from the 6th to the 9th.
I think there are a lot of ways Sanchez could be used effectively.

I guess I'm saying I don't think he'd be rushing back for a G2 start.

Voth made the postseason roster

No Stevenson, though :(

I guess you go MAT because of all the Dodger lefties. Maybe we will see Stevenson if they make it to next round.

Zuck says the plan is Corbin-Strasburg-Scherzer and then either Corbin (on short rest) or Sanchez for game 4 if necessary

I agree with this - particularly if Corbin wins tonight.  It's not like the Nats would be starting someone like Voth or Ross

I choose a rested Sanchez over rushing Strasburg. Give Strasburg game 3, which will either be for the series lead or to keep the thing alive.

Since the Nats hit rock bottom on May 23rd, they went 74-38 to get into the playoffs. That's the same record as the Dodgers had in that stretch. They scored more runs than the Dodgers in that time, too.

This team was written off in May. Now you're playing the best team in the NL. House money. You lose, its expected. You win, you're gods.

per @MarkZuckerman

Nationals’ NLDS roster is announced. Changes from wild card: Suero and Voth in, Stevenson and Read out.
kind of figures.  I hate relying on reverse splits, but in a bullpen with one lefthander (not counting Corbin), it's worth noting Suero has very good stats against lefties.  33 IP, ERA of 3.00, no HR, 34:12 K:BB, .279/.338/.326 for a wOBA of .293.  That ERA is only behind Corbin, Doo, and  Hudson among rostered guys, and that wOBA is only behind Hudson, Corbin, Stras, and Doo.  FIP is actually 3d v. lefties, behind Corbin and HJudson. Gonna guess he'll be used like a LOOGY, maybe paired with Rainey or Strickland v. righties.

The problem with Suero isn't that he's not decent against lefties. The problem is davey likes to use Suero for whole innings. Or even 2 innings. If we can just use Suero only for just one or two lefty batters at a time. Just as a specialist. Please for the love of god!

The stretch of the order that goes Bellinger - Taylor - Muncy - Seager is where I think you see him, but only if Corbin has already been lifted (well, duh, Corbin of course is the best option, but if he's been pinch hit for, then you may see Suero).

ditto.

Stevenson is much more valuable than Adams, who should not be anywhere near the post season roster.

Yeah, do they really need another pitcher?

yep, and Suero has been decent against lefties, so with only one LHP in the bullpen they need him.

@MarkZuckerman
Stephen Strasburg will start Game 2. Davey Martinez said Strasburg approached him today and said “I want the ball.” Martinez also noted that makes him available for potential Game 5 on full rest.

No restrictions for Strasburg tomorrow. Viewed his 34-pitch relief appearance as kind of like a between-starts side session.

Strasburg said he knew he was good to go for Game 2 after he got a good night’s sleep. Said his arm has felt great all year. Though when asked if his relief appearance was comparable to a bullpen session, he said “probably the most adrenaline I’ve ever had for a bullpen session.”

Davey didnt even have to ask. Stras came up to him and DEMANDED the ball. Being around Max must be rubbing off.

I likes.

It’s a mistake to start Stras in game 2. Especially if they win game one.
