I saw an interview with DM  done Wed. night and he basically said Friday's starter is TBD. I think it's all on how Game 1 goes.

I imagine if we are 1-0 we will go with Sanchez otherwise it'll be Stras.

IDK, if we're up 1-0, I'd want to go with Stras all the more and drop the hammer.

I don't disagree, but I suspect pragmatism, a split over the first two on the road is nothing to be ashamed of - and it's not like Sanchez is complete garbage!

If Corbin gets pulled early and we have to go to the bullpen, that's another reason to start Sanchez, I suppose.

I thought he said it was independent of Game 1 result. I.e, it all depends on how Strasburg feels.

Could be. I haven't seen his comments. I think it should be. If Stras is good to go, he should get the ball.

I suspect it's a combination of both.

I listened to Dave's presser and got the impression that Stras's fitness to go was one facet of the decision not the deciding one. Still, I am in agreement, if he's says he's OK to go to 100 pitches then he should start.

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere but I just got an email from the Nats saying Sunday's game is at 7:45pm.

Stras would make so much freaking money if he came back for Game 2 on short rest and dominated. He'd legit get Grienke levels of AAV.

Do you just turn Sanchez into a bullpen piece then? And when I say bullpen piece, I mean like actually use him in important spots, not just mop up duty.

:lmao:  of course (but I'm sure you won't be the only one here who will be anxious all day tomorrow :?)
Oh no, I'm not anxious, I'm legitimately afraid that this could be a butt kicking. I think our best chance is the extra long layoff screwing up the Dodgers rhythm a bit.

Maybe. Or he's your long man out of the pen. He's a bit of a utility pitcher here.

Corbin Game 1
Stras a slightly abbreviated Game 2 start
Max Game 3
Sanchez Game 4
Stras Game 5

If Stras pitches Game 2, he can be on full resty for Game 5.  I'd rather have Stras for Game 5 than Corbin, although Corbin isn't a bad option at all.  Corbin could be ready to pitch in relief that game behind Stras.
let's see how Corbin does tonight.  He's done well in Chavez Ravine.

BTW, Svrluga has a nice piece up in the Post saying, basically, get on the back of Strasburg and ride that horse.  Says he's a cross between a Clydesdale and a thoroughbred in the playoffs.  On game 2, he says you could try him as a starter on 2 days rest for as many as he can go knowing  he can be available behind Corbin in Game 5 (or start), or you could make him available for backing up Sanchez and hope to have him start game 4 or 5.

As for Sanchez, he starts whichever of Game 2 or Game 4 that Stras doesn't.  I don't start Corbin Game 4.

It's not your standard 2 days rest, though. He threw 35 pitches, wasn't really put in extreme high leverage in those 35 pitches, on what was basically his throw day. It's a bit more high intensity than a normal throw day, but he didn't throw 110 pitches over 7 innings, either. He should be ready to go, I think. If he is, I don't think this is even a conversation.

If anyone sees the Nats NLDS roster once it's released please post a copy here. Thanks in advance!

The Dodgers and Nats had identical records the final 112 games, and I'd say the deadline moves to the bullpen (Hudson mainly) helped the Nats more than anything LA did.  This isn't David vs Goliath.

Having the best team in a 5 vs a 7 game series is also extremely beneficial.

If it's a decision regarding who will start these playoff games. You can almost bet the house that Nats mgmt will find a way to botch it.

They already botched it in the WC game... but got bailed out by Soto and the Brewers right fielder.

Nationals’ NLDS roster is announced. Changes from wild card: Suero and Voth in, Stevenson and Read out.

I mean, if you're not going to start him, we need him to be more than just a long man. All season, he was pretty strong the first couple innings of game. I know he's never relieved, but if you can bring him in to an inning fresh, it's basically a start. He'd be a strong bridge from the 6th to the 9th.

Having the best team in a 5 vs a 7 game series is also extremely beneficial.
Is it? I feel the opposite. In a five game series, even with the best team, the other team can win at least one. Then you're talking about one bad game and it becomes do or die.

Sorry. I worded it wrong. Having to play the best team is better in a five game series. It’s better to get the Dodgers now.

So I agree with you.
