I went to MLB.com this morning to confirm something I suspected all the way from Section 138 - Hader suffered a complete lack of control in the 8th inning and the Nationals helped him out a lot by swinging.

Victor Robles, who struck out to lead off the inning, was thrown 6 pitches, of which only 1 was in the strike zone. Trea Turner would have walked if he just didn't swing at all, he was thrown only one real strike.

ump had a terrible zone for the night. Darling commented also that it seemed one way (Brewers getting a big zone, Nats tight).  I can see Robles having that in mind.

From where I was sitting Cain had no chance at Taylor whatsoever. He was playing back in no doubles defense and Taylor saw the play in front of him the whole way. And you also don't know if Cain's ankle affected his ability to plant and throw.
They spent about 5 minutes going back and forth on that play in the TBS post-game.  Rollins says he would have been out there, yelling at Cain not to throw, Sheffield saying he would have ignored Rollins and thrown.  Replays looked like there was a possible play if Cain throws right away.  You might be right about the ankle and not planting, and maybe the SS blocks his view of 3d, but, fundamentally, it was a risky play by Taylor given the game situation.

Edit - I agree that Rollins and you guys are right.  Even if a play could have been made, it is Zimmerman's run that matters.  Cain can't throw unless he knows he nails Taylor.

Maybe.

I’m amazed there are no off days scheduled in the NLDS.

Saturday is an off / travel day...

Probably the worst balls/strikes I've seen in a couple years since the umps have been graded by technology.

Got a selfie with Jayson Werth in the elevator before the game. I did that for y’all.

That's awesome!  Did you give him a nip of whiskey?

That is awesome.  I met him on a flight to Orlando last year, he couldn't have been any nicer.   Got a selfie too. :)

I think it's a WNFF law that you have to post selfies if there is a team member in them :)

Except they scored 4 runs and won on June 8...
Maybe someone said it already, but it turns out that's exactly what they did yesterday, too!

That bat died a hero

Does anyone know if Zimmerman's broken bat was recovered? That bat should be encased in glass and set up as a Wild Card game shrine.

One thing that happened last night at the park that has not happened before as far as I know. People started splashing beer and drinks in the stands when it was time to celebrate. I mean like shaking up beer cans and letting the beer fly. It was crazy. A fight nearly broke out in my section over it.

The night time flyover was pretty cool. You got to see just the shapes of the planes over what looked like a smoky haze.
