You’re right. And that’s saying something, given the dumb threads that have been posted before.

Does Turner steal bases anymore?

Also, what’s it going to take for him to get a day off? Give Difo or Sanchez a start. It’s ridiculous that Davey feels obligated to start him and bat him leadoff EVERY SINGLE GAME.

Ever hear of Cal Ripken Jr.? He also missed over a month of the season so he is well rested.

Trea swings 3-0 and flys out. Dumb as a box of rocks. No awareness whatsoever.

Putting himself before the team. Now Rendon hits with nobody on. “High school Joe” crap!!

Zimmerman did the same crap last week. Hard to root for some of these chumps.

I tend to find Turner overrated, but I'm a lot more sick and tired of current management's obsession with stolen bases as though they are the holy grail of baseball along with their obsession with lefty/righty pitching matchups. Taking Doolittle out of tonight's game to get some "ideal" lefty/righty thing with Hunter Strickland cost the team the game.

Turner's had a good season.  When it comes down to these last couple of weeks, it's necessary to dig deep and grind out at-bats.  It's not easy.
That's what the good teams do.  Turner might not be up to the task.

Well, the top of our lineup sure does seem to hit a lot of first-pitch popups. While the Braves were grinding down Scherzer with a 30-pitch first inning, Turner and the top of our lineup were swinging at everything, leading to plenty of 5-pitch innings for their guy. Our guys generally seem to lack a lot of plate discipline.

Nats 6th in baseball (2nd in NL to the Dodgers)  in lowest outside the zone swing percentage. Third in baseball (1st in NL) in lowest swinging strike percentage.

They are one of the more disciplined teams in MLB.

As far as Turner specifically, he’s 78th of 140 qualified hitters in outside the zone swing percentage. So average.

Trea Turner’s speed has been rendered useless of late. He doesn’t steal bases. He doesn’t bunt. The boys are fading down the stretch. They could use a jolt of energy. Turner should be that guy. Instead, he’s a non factor on most nights.

Screw it. Bat the pitcher first to get his AB out the way.

:hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

And let our pitchers hit-away on 3-0 counts because “a pitch in the strike-zone doesn’t mean a guaranteed walk”.

 :hysterical:

We deserve to lose. In the past week we have allowed guess hitters such as Turner, Matt Adams, and Ryan Zimmerman to swing on 3-0 counts????
None of the three have a keen instinct and understanding of the strike-zone to be given that privilege - especially during a Playoff chase when EVERY PITCH matters even if it’s just to elevate a pitch count.

How many times have we seen those three take pitches center-cut then flail away at a slider in the dirt on the very next pitch??...  ridiculous. Most players have to prove they are a scholar of the strike zone before given the privilege to act on/swing at 3-0 pitches. Now is not the right time to worry about hurting “anyone’s” feelings by giving them the take sign.

Our season is over if we lose tonight.

Anyone else love the stress? Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii love it!!! Playoff baseball baby!  :tomatoes:

Turner is a very good player.  But flawed.  Selfish and undisciplined.

Flaming hot takes. This one has it all. Assertions based in zero evidence and assumptions about someone’s character based on on-field performance.

Strong work.

I’m still waiting for Turner to steal a base. It’s been weeks. Turner and Eaton bring nothing to the top of the lineup.

Other than OBP of .351 and .363

Also speed manifests in things other than stolen bases.  Turner and Eaton are in top 30 in MLB by runs added by base running (as is Robles).
