we're almost at 4 pages already.  This is unreal.

Earlier Slate asked a Q about the ping pong process.  Picture a big spinning basket like you'd see at bingo.  In it they'd put 365 ping pong balls, each with a day of the year in it.  Once a year they'd select the draft order by picking ping pong balls, usually done by the director of selective service.  For us it'd be a draft party. Everyone would gather round and the director would pull out a ball and whatever date was inside would be the first batch of draftees selected. For example the first ball chosen is March 1, those born on March 1 would be the first to be drafted.  They'd select all 365 balls and that was the draft order  that would be used the following year.  So after the draft order was established everyone knew where they stood the next year so you could use that year to start calling in favors if you had them to get in the navy, air force, guard, reserve, seminary, medical excuse, travel plans to Canada or Sweden, etc.

Play ball. :)

What's the record for most posts in a GDT before the game starts?

Old-timers really got their posts in before 4 p.m. dinner at Shoney's :stir:

A hellacious amount of boomer action has been going on with rain in western Fairfax. I hope the weather is better further up Braddock Rd.

Sometimes I think this is just a virtual gathering of a bunch of old farts talking about their social security benefits, good music back in the day, the weather forecast, and young woman they can't have now and never could handle back in the day.

Alright, enough retirement talk.    Don't wanna piss off BiL.    :)

A little too late. Between the retirement planning seminar and GDTs that don't have lineups, I'm just about ready to lose it.

Somehow I think you were a player back in the day. Some of the other old guys on here? Not so much.

I was never a player but I sure had some jobs that were conducive to those kinds of shenanigans.

I was a DJ for a few years PT and my full time job included roamin' around the company.    :)

I have two bayonets  ...  one is my dad's from WWII (Navy) and one is my father-in-laws.    He was a 33 year career Navy Corpsman.    So you can imagine what he did after enlisting just before the Korean War.    I had my uncles (USMC Iwo Jima) but I gave it to his son when he got old enough to understand what it is about.   I'm the historian/genealogist of the family.     I have no bayonet from my service.    All I have is an old worn set of lapel crossed rifles.    I keep lookin' for my blue braid but I can't find the SOB.    The Continental Army must have the bayonet.
