I was given an upgrade to First Class on a USAirways flight from Charlotte years ago...the last such seat on that flight.
Jim Palmer was standing behind me in line at the gate counter, expecting to get an upgrade as well. What followed was not pretty... 
We did not make eye contact as he walked past me to the rear of the plane...
