Field of Dreams
« Topic Start: August 08, 2019, 09:33:38 AM »
MLB just announced that the Yankees and White Sox will play a regular-season game at the Field of Dreams site in Iowa next August. That's definitely something different and I think it's kind of cool. They will construct a temporary ballpark for the game.

It would be awesome if they just used a cornfield with no grandstands, the rendering makes it look like they’re playing on a random little league field

So MLB is going to compensate the owners of one of these teams for a missed home game?

The White Sox will probably take more in at the gate than they do a random Thursday game...

I was originally kind of annoyed that they are building their own stadium next to the Field of Dreams, rather than using the Field of Dreams itself. But then I realized that MLB building its own stadium in Iowa is actually kind of more authentic than using somebody else's, if the goal is to commemorate the movie.

Maybe the Nats can move their AAA team there in 2021...

Just looked it up - the park is going to be 2,000 seats too small for AAA baseball. But that's a great point, I wonder if the endgame is for this to be a minor league ballpark. I guess it could serve the Dubuque market.

Well this will be neato. Costner or Ray Liotta to throw out the first pitch? Play-by-play done by James Earl Jones? Guess we can't get Burt Lancaster to be the medical staff

all that good corn.  It's prime Iowa farm land.  I'm sure the banks will be breathing down their necks to foreclose if this stunt doesn't make money.  do you think anyone will actually go  to the game?  I mean, it's not like it's Des Moines.  No one lives there.
