In '73 or so, three of us rode in an MG of some kind from DC to Virginia Beach. We couldn't put the roof down because it was raining. Made for tight quarters for three and 1/2 hours ... and we were smoking. 
3 of us drove from DeKalb, IL to Macomb, IL in my MG-B in 1971 or 1972 to see NIU play WIU in basketball in October or November. NIU went 20-4 that season but didn't go to the NCAA or NIT largely because Doug Collins with ISU beat NIU with a buzzer beater. We felt we were robbed...
It was a 3 hour drive, and my two passengers were 6'4" and 6'2". The 6'2" guy laying over the batteries was none too pleased. We too were smokin', but over-the-counter stuff...
