Don't count the Phillies out, although it would be so sweet for the Phillies to fade.  That would make my year.
Dont have the pitching. They're done.

Itll be the Cubs in DC. Maddon will manage circles around Martinez. Scherzer will give up three Homers. Cubs will win 6-2.

Thanks for the heads-up.  Merry Christmas everyone, I’ll talk to you in April.   :run:

We already know Stras is a big game pitcher.  I'm not ready to say Max is the best choice for that WC game.

Stras has one good game in the playoffs to his career.

And he has pitched well against the Cubs throughout his career. I would have no problem starting Stras (or Corbin, for that matter) in a WC game. But I prefer Max because, you know, Max.

Max wasn’t 100% recovered in the 2017 postseason and it showed.   If he’s still not looking 100% in his September starts and Strasburg has a strong September, I hope they go with Stras

I thought madfon did a terrible job in 2017 game 5 and just got lucky.  He burned through his bullpen way too quickly and had to count on Davisto get though 2+ innings with absolutely no one left to pitch.  This was the day after they had to pull Davis after not registering an out the night before. Maddon and Davis tried to give that game back to us. We just didn’t let them.

He wasnt so freaking stupid to use Scherzer with no rest, or Sammy Solis at all.

The last of my worries is the "genius" of Madden.

Agreed. But if Max reverts to form in September, then, yeah, Max in the WC. That's a no-brainer.

Are we that confident that we will even be in the Wildcard Game?
Seems to me the Brewers and Mets have a much softer schedule ahead than us so i’m not even thinking about counting any chickens yet. With our bullpen???? Geeeeeesh!

I'm just happy that this is the first year in Nats history of being in the playoffs (knock on wood) without an automatic loss in Gio.

It's like we've spot every single playoff opponent a game, and of course the series always goes to 5 with us losing.

Looks more and more like the Cubs (or Cards) and the Nats for the wild card.  Phils, Mets and Brewers all fading.

Unless Scherzer regains cy young form, Stras starts the wildcard game.

yeah but we also have a 5 game series against Philly at the end of the season, so if they can keep it close they can definitely give themselves a chance to bypass us

The Nats have the best record in baseball since May 24, and you want to be negative?

At this rate, the Braves have a better chance at catching the Dodgers (4.5 GB) than we do catching the Braves (5.5 GB).

If we end up a WC team and get past the WC game, we could actually end up facing Atlanta in a NLDS.
