Nats play .700+ ball against sub .500 teams: Fool’s gold, won’t last, team is still no good.

Mets play .700+ ball against sub .500 teams: second coming of 1969 team.

This upcoming series is BIG.

Amazing some people can’t just enjoy a sweep and what’s turning out t9 be a good, if not dominant, season.  And a sweep with Fedde, Ross, and Sanchez pitching.  We are perfectly capable of getting in the wild card game and that would be great.  And I was not a fan of Davey btw, but he deserves some kudos.

Not sure you're right here - Davey has made many mistakes with substitutions this year - particularly relief pitchers

All things considered, that was one of the most impressive series of the season. Fedde and Ross put their big boy pants on. I’m proud of the boys. 3 straight series losses had me worried.

Some people are only happy when they're unhappy. :hysterical:

Seriously, the value of this place is that it provides a great forum for venting.

This is the same with every message board.  I'm not sure why this surprises people.

true, definitely a good forum for venting when the team is playing poorly.  But when the team is playing well and folks are still down on them seems to only be an effort to troll.

it's interesting in that our record to date / game played that OC or N2P posts at the end of every game thread shows we are kind of hovering between 2014 and 2018 right now (and 2005).  2014 I think we kind of stormed to the best record in the 2d half of the year, so it may be tough to catch, but it seems we are on a pace that leaves us just behind our worst division winners and just ahead of our best non-playoff teams.  We'll see if 87- 90 wins is good enough for the WC.

Just curious: if we win the wild card game (and lose NLDS)  does that count?

The wild card game isn't the playoffs.

It's just a glorified extension of the regular season that MLB's marketers have just hyped up since that one year where it came down to the final regular season game for 2 spots between 4 teams a few years back.

It's more like a makeup regular season game thats tacked on.

Actually it is...if we like it or not.  The tiebreaker isn't considered a part of the playoffs...which makes sense...

No one with half a brain considers the WC play in game to be the playoffs. It's dumb and should be a three game series.

Not sure why we'd get a parade for not making it to the playoffs.

If the Wild Card game is not the playoffs why didn’t the stats count towards the regular season?

It used  to be that a tie-breaking game 163 counted as a regular season game.  I know because my roto team had Rodney or Benoit on the Tigers when they had a paly-in game against Gardy's Twins.  I had tied up for first that game, only to have my pitcher intentionally walk a guy in extra innings to blow the WHIP category. Those games would count in regular seasons stats.

I'm not sure the WC game counts statistically for the regular season.

The Wild Card games are officially postseason games.  Whether fans want to acknowledge them as so or not.  Funny how now that the Nats seem headed for a WC game the usual poo poo on everything crowd is preimptuvely calling it a non-playoff game.  Heaven forbid the Nats win a WC game and anybody claim it as a postseason win.
