Wild Card watch
« Topic Start: July 22, 2019, 06:39:45 AM »
This is going to be a tight race with 4 teams bunched within a game, and then 2 more teams within a 2.5 games.

This week

Nationals - 4 with Colorado and 3 with LAD.  Putting on my FP Santangelo hat, the Dodgers are doing a lot of cross country travelling so maybe we catch a bit of break??
Brewers - 6 home games with 3 against dying Cinci and 3 with the Cubs.  They just put Woodruff on the IL.
Cardinals - 4 at fading Pittsburgh and 3 at home against Houston.
Phillies - 2 at Detroit and 3 at home against Atlanta.  Two days off this week will help their bullpen going into the Atlanta series.

Dbacks - 3 with Baltimore and 4 at Miami.  Lookout, they could make a big move this week with this schedule.
Giants - 3 against the Cubs and 3 at San Diego.

Obviously I hope we get a wild card but either way I hope the Phillies don't get in just like I was glad the Vikings didn't make the playoffs because Kurt Cousins went there.

Wild Card means we'd (assuming we win the WC game) line up against the Dodgers. The East division winner would face the weak Central division winner which would be preferable. It is what it is, but I hope the Braves fade off - the Nats aren't going to keep up their recent pace but if they keep winning, who knows what can happen...

Dropped into a tie for the first wild card with St. Louis.  Somehow the Cardinals overcame the FP Santangelo-impossible-to-sweep-a-4 game series odds.  Phillies only a game back.  Our schedule is tough!

Actually tied with Cards/Cubs. They are tied for the division lead now.

I'll take a dogfight to get in vs a laugher of a September every time.

Second wild card now.

Other teams are surging and Nats are caught limping around. Basically have to win every Corbin and Strasburg start, 70% of Sanchez and hope the other 2 spots don't kill your bullpen. Max is out a while so we're in trouble. Voth being hurt means Fedde and Ross are mainstays.

After Philly wins tonight we'll be behind them and out of the playoff picture. Things are looking up!

Yeah, unless Max comes back soon they will have to fight and scratch their way in. Improved pen will help but 3 dependable starters is not going to cut it.

Phillies got a season changing win against LA, now they are on fire. We had a chance for a huge lifting win today but failed.

Mets with 6 in a row, weak schedule, and adding Stroman are now in the mix.

More than in the mix.  It will be a minor miracle if the Nats end up ahead of the Mets.  That team can go to the World Series.

I don't see it - Mets pitching hasn't been good all year

The bullpen seems worse overall. Also, no idea how many games this is.

And the Mets have the collapsing Pirates and Marlins before their series with us.  They could actually be ahead of us by the the time that series starts.

It's pretty much guaranteed.  And they'll sweep us again.

On the bright side, the Fire Davey and Fire Rizzo crowd will likely get their wish.

Davey will ride the run from May 24 to the ASB into a new extension. Rizzo will never get fired, only will leave once things are really dire here.

If Rendon and Strasburg leave, it’ll be pretty dire

I could see him jetpacking out of town at the end of the season if he's been told Stras is opting out and that the Lerners aren't going to give Rendomn what he wants.

Don't expect anymore days like that.  The winning percentage of the last 20 games (11-9) isn't going to get it done.  The loss of Max, even for a few weeks, is devastating.
