Wasn't Memorial Day a holiday before 1971?   I remember parades and all.      Maybe 1971 is when they changed it to a Monday.

I thought it was around then that they enacted the Monday holiday thing?

It was always May 30 before 1971. After that it moved to last Monday in May.

I think so too.   FP said it's been a holiday since '71.    He may have forgotten the Monday part.    Pups in the Park probably wore him out yesterday.

I was in the Army in '70 and we "celebrated" it.

It was celebrated before 1971, but Congress made it a National Holiday that year.

‘70 I was going into the 11th grade. Any day off from school I’d remember. Pretty sure we were off. :)

I remember having the 30th off in school   ....   back to the 50s.     Used to be "Decoration Day".    On that day, there'd be a parade with a ceremony at the local WWI memorial.    Then head to the pool where they threw a wreath into the pool in remembrance of those lost at sea.

It was a day off and I didn’t really care why.

The preferred name for the holiday gradually changed from "Decoration Day" to "Memorial Day", which was first used in 1882. Memorial Day did not become the more common name until after World War II, and was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967. ... The law took effect at the federal level in 1971.

They (FP mainly) have been talking the whole series how Ramirez hits the ball to right field.....and for the most part he has in this series. So he hits a liner up the middle and it appeared they were playing him basically straight away.

Isn’t the whole purpose of the shift so that ball like that don’t get through?
