Looks like Sheppard will be full time GM.

The Washington Wizards removed the interim tag from Tommy Sheppard’s title Friday, making him the 12th general manager in franchise history, according to a person with knowledge of the team’s new structuring.

The job no one else wanted. He seems to be doing ok so far. But a big hole to dig out of.

The conventional wisdom of the national media is that the Wizards should trade Beal for basically nothing if Miami agrees to take Wall. Doesn’t make sense to me. If you trade Beal the Wall contract does not handicap you as no other big names are coming. Trade Beal to someone that has assets we can use.

I read the "job description" and thought that's what agents do.     Reads like nebulous bullcrap.

Sheppard was on 106.7 this morning.    My first impression is "he sure can bullcrap".    :)     Hearing about the self-described new direction of the organization, two things come to mind:

1)   To have a "new" direction, one has to assume there was a direction in place.
2)   Ted paid a hell of a lot of money to a consultant to create a vision statement and made sure Sheppard knew all the key phrases:

"good character players"    "going forward"      :blah: :blah: :blah:

Listening yesterday to bill simmons (whose basketball opinion I usually respect) talk about the teams in the worst positions going forward - wizards coming in at number two. I wonder if they went internal because no one external wanted to derail their career cleaning up ernie’s mess

I believe the direction before was backwards.

Need to trade Beal this year. Hope for a high pick this year that turns into a good player. Then hope Wall come back next year and looks good. And then trade him. Unfortunately I think they will delude themselves and think they can make the playoffs this year and hang onto Beal. Not fully committed to the tank.

Still should be more fun watching Brown, Rui and Bryant play.  Better than the same old.

Today's "interview" with Sheppard (first 20 or so minutes of the cut).   Leonsis comments start it off.     Some Beal talk in there as well:

I meandered through the telecast during Nats' breaks last night.    I miss Buck and Kara.

I miss Buck and Phil, but I got used to that, sort of.

How bad are the new telecasters, and do you have a sense for why the 'zards made the move?
