Dusty owns a winery. Walter Johnson owned a farm. dave Martinez does not even own "Davey". The only proper "Davey" managed the 1986 World Champions.
And managed the Nats to a game 5 collapse in 2012!!

dave got the Nats over the hump. Silliest thing I've ever seen, and I've followed baseball since Bucky Harris managed the Nats in the early '50s.

Considering 5 of the top 6 threads on this board are about firing someone or how bad we suck, I say, clear the deck.

1. POLL: Should the Nationals fire Dave Martinez NOW, replace him with Dusty Baker?
2. Fire Dave Martinez - Plummeting Playoff Probability - 42.1%
3. 6.5 games back....what's it going to take?
4. Fire Rizzo New
5. Adam Eaton
6. Worst Offensive Performance

To be fair Davey did get us over the hump of losing playoff series. We did not lose a playoff series last year and we wont lose one this year!

Dusty was leading the Reds to the playoffs.  They fired him and haven't been a playoff team since. 7.5 games behind in the division

I'm sure the Giants and Cubs regret letting him go, too.

It only took the Giants 8 years an 2 managers after he left for them to win the World Series. And the Cubs 10 years and 5 more managers to win. But sure, letting Baker go was what led those teams to the promised land.

Dusty's gone. I agree it's dumb to focus on him. But so many folks here refer to the guy like he's some moron and that rankles me to no end.

Bring back Dusty! When he manged the Nats,

- MAT learned to hit ...

- Brian Goodwin learned to hit

- Difo could hit, and, best I remember, his fielding suffered mostly from eagerness to make a spectacular play

- Roark was cool

- Gio was, at least, more adequate than Sanchez and Hellickson.

- Madson, Kelley, and Kintzler held up the bullpen.

Most people will say coincidence, that Dusty had little to do with that.  But I sincerely believe he did.

Dusty could walk into today, replacing dave, and the Nats would improve.

I disagree, I believe that Martinez is better than just about any inanimate objects.
