Tack on another win against the Bruins.

Bruins have only won 1 game in the last 15 match ups against the Caps. Going all the way back to 2014. 1 win in 5 years. Oof.

Win or lose, it's been an exciting game tonight.  Always great to see the 5-on-3 PK.

It'll never happen, but if they do away with the off sides rule, I'm all in on hockey again.

heck of a finish today. Caps down 4-2 late, Oshie scores to make it 4-4 with 14 seconds left, and the Caps win in OT.

Probably helped that they swapped teams

Backstrom extended for five more years.  No word yet on deferred money.

Nice to see my favorite player signed. Five heas might be a little long given his age but so be it.  I guess this means Holtby is probably gone?

Holtby was always going to be gone. And its best this way.

I would like for him to leave on a Stanley Cup but at the same time his play has been downhill for the past 3 years. Its night and day how much the team plays with Sammy in net versus Holtby right now.

Holtby is just too much mentally rattled. He did this during the season during our cup run and needed to be benched. So if this is a deja vu moment...I am ok with that.

Well, if Zimmerman doesn't re-sign with us, he's always an option to replace Holtby.  Goalies don't need to be able to throw much.

I understand they have to move on but no guarantee that Samsonov can handle the job full time.  You never know with goalies. Some slump for a few years and then bounce back. Like you said it’s mental. It’s one of the toughest jobs in sports.

There is no guarantee Holtby can carry the load anymore either. His GAA is near 3 and his Save percentage is almost 89%

Meanwhile the rookie is sub 2.50 GAA and has almost 93% save. To me he is the best option based on performance right now.

He will slump. All goalies do. But sticking with Holtby when hes clearly slumping to just hope magically he doesnt anymore isnt the right way to go about fixing his issues.

I haven't been following closely but hasn't Holtby played more against the better teams? Just need to get one of them hot for the playoffs.

I want you to thank Yale for the first goal tonight.  John Hayden,#15for the Devils, took the penalty that gave the Caps the 5 on 3 before the Ovi goal!

I'm thanking Yale for the first three Montreal goals tonight.  Because Lyon let them in.

:( Really rooting for the kid but not taking advantage of his chances.

We also have 2 NHL drafted defensemen, St Ivanny (I think by the Flyers) and Phil Kemp, and just got burned 7-0 by Harvard at MSG.

Caps have one of our best recent players at Hershey.  He's from Herndon - Joe Snively.  His dad is a PI attorney who handles car crashes.  Snively Whiplash.

In all seriousness he didn’t look that bad. Faced 41 shots. Looked it up and he has a 2.57 GAA and .918 save percentage in the AHL which is not bad. Probably this is his make or break year to see if he can be the big league back up next year.

Yes, St Ivany is a Flyers pick. He seems to be behind several of their other college/Europe/junior draft picks so wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get signed. Does Yale have a good team this year?

No room for the Boston Marchands in here.

no.  Probably around a 6th or 7th seed in a middling 12 team conference (ECAC) tournament.  Pairwise (the ranking for all college hockey teams for NCAA tournament purposes) they are no better than 30- 40 range out of 60 teams, with 16 making the NCAA tournament.  They need to win the ECAC conference tournament, which ain't happening as there are 2 or 3 top 10 teams in the ECAC.

Snively, by the way, has 9 goals, 7 assists in 34 games at Hershey.  Probably not enough for a call up.

Good luck in the tournament. I sometimes watch the Big Ten games in BTN or NBCSN but they don’t show the eastern teams.
