They could always name him "Pylon"...Nisky and Orpik's last positions with the Caps...

They both broke up when I told 'em your suggestion.

Hagelin coming back on a 4 year, $11MM deal...

I'd be worried with a 4-year deal but Haeglin is a useful player in a lot of situations, and the cap hit is so low than the last 2 years could be a buyout and it wouldn't affect anything. Welcome back Hags

The Caps threw me a curve...

They always start their Horse Show road trip in Vancouver, and then head to Edmonton/Calgary, so I booked our trip accordingly for the week of October 20th in order to get good rates.

This year, they start with Edmonton/Calgary, and end the trip in Vancouver...the evening of the day we leave for home.

Figures...

Oh well...more time to devote to other interests...

Not sure about this Connolly/Panik switcheroo.

Not sure about this Connolly/Panik switcheroo.

Connolly is a bit of a one-trick pony in that he's not great defensively, isn't a big forechecker, and his best trait is his shot. I love the guy but was cool with him getting his payday somewhere else because we are so tight budget-wise. Panik seems like a solid 3rd line and Hagelin-Eller-Panik is an experienced, responsibly and dangerous 3rd line IMO. That's the line that goes up against Crosby or McDavid or Kucherov.

That said, we are currently super thin at forward in terms of scoring ability. None of our forward prospects scream high-end talent, so that concerns me a little bit because the fourth line of Stephenson-Boyd-Whoever is not going to be a threat much and relying on our top 2 lines for most of our scoring will be tough and there's not a young skilled forward we can drop in to try out (like we could with 65 the last few years).

I liked our draft a lot this year and the 2nd round pick Larsson should be in the AHL immediately and on the verge of a call-up and there's a couple guys to keep an eye on. Excited for the season to start.

If the Caps can ride out the first 3 weeks, it will be a good season.  The front end of the schedule is a bit rough.

Why does the name Panik send shivers down my spine?     Must be the baseball one.

Apparently there is a WHO concert on October 21st in the Rogers Arena.  Guess the turnaround for hockey the next night would have been a bit much to expect...so at least there seems to have been a good reason...

Doesn't make it suck any less...

Capitals Re-sign Christian Djoos on one year $1.25MM deal...

This was an arbitration award...doesn't say if he won or lost on the award, or if it was a split.  Wonder if GMBM gets pissed about these things like Rizzo does?

He won the award, we are now over the cap and the roster will have to be tweaked before opening night assuming no one goes to LTIR. Stephenson and Boyd are the two more expensive 4th liners that are in trouble.

Then we should trade his ass for a 7th round draft pick...we are pretty flush with D-men now...and he was a healthy scratch much of the second half of the season...

Love the shirt

I once ate two orders of their chicken marsala with spaghetti on a dare.  I could barely move for like two days.
