Enough of the postmortem on 2018-2019...it's a new day...on to next season...

Early thoughts:

Do we find a way to keep Hagelin?

Copley is likely gone...who is the backup next year?

Which, if any, of the coaches are replaced?

It seems that DSP is gone...certainly Orpik...likely Jaskin.  Who else?

Jaskin seems like the kind of guy Edmonton could use.  Be in the starting lineup for the next #1 Draft Picks Champion banner raising and then fill a roster spot while McDavid and Draisaitl have record years en route to the next #1 Draft Picks Champion banner raising

I say let all of the UFAs and RFAs walk, with the exception of Vrana.  I know he disappeared in the playoffs, but he has so much potential and did score 24 goals this year.  The core pof the team is steady, but I think it would make sense to shake it up a bit.  I know Rierden loves Hagelin so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to keep him.

I was in the car listening to some of that. Sounds like the video is a year old. Must have pissed someone off even more than Caps fans with his playoff performance.

That's the way I heard it as well.   Gotta be aware of your surroundings.

The Washington Capitals have traded defenseman Matt Niskanen for Philadelphia Flyers’ Radko Gudas.

Important to move Niskanen's contract, and Gudas isn't great but is basically an Orpik replacement. Fine trade.

Out and about listening to 106.7   ...   appears clearing salary is the goal.   They said Holtby and Backstrom are comin' up to free agency.    They also mentioned Gudas' inclination to do stupid crap and get penalized multiple games.

Gudas is a goon.

Had (some) better numbers than Niskanen last year, which surprised me.

But yeah, he's really physical and is one bad hit away from sitting in the press box for a long time. With Jensen able to effectively take Niskanen's spot, this is fine. I don't expect Gudas to be more than a 6th/7th defenseman this year and next summer he'll be gone, which is the most important part.

OT    My hockey neighbors got a new female rescued pup.    He's the Pens fan and she's the Caps fan.    They were gonna name the pup Matti.    They figured Niskanen played for the Pens and the Caps so Matti was a good compromise.     I advised him that Niskanen was traded to the Flyers.    He sez, "Back to the drawing board on the dog's name."

They could always name him "Pylon"...Nisky and Orpik's last positions with the Caps...
