Jay Bruce lifetime: Home Runs: 302, RBI: 909, BA .246

Not sure why all the hate towards this guy. He's no Willie Mays, ok, I get that. But he is a real major league player who has had a respectable career.
Power of suggestions. He had a drop off with the Mets. Seems to have bounced back this year.

That won't last.
True. Not likely to hit two home runs in every game.

By all rights he should have been the NYM All Star in '17, not Conforto. Then they moved him.

He hit another clutch and rather large dong tonight sparking a massive comeback by the Phillies.  It better not last.

If we are going to try to salvage this season, after today, the next 16 games for Philly could give us a chance to make a move:

4 @ Cubs
3 @ Brewers
3 vs Cardinals
3 @ Dodgers
3 @ Padres

Meanwhile, our schedule eases up from the what we have faced so far this month.  (Of course, I still think Atlanta is the best team in the division so they may have a nice lead in 2 weeks.)

So the Phillies salvaged this tough stretch by winning their last 2 in SD.  Their schedule now eases up considerably.  We made up 1.5 games on them over these 16 games:

Nats 9-6
Braves 8-6
Mets 9-7
Phillies 8-8

But soon we play them 4 here in DC. So theres that easy way of making up ground

The Braves getting Keuchel and the Phillies getting Bruce (and I assume they will add at the deadline) means that the Nationals, if they want to compete, need to add another starting pitcher.

7 games back in 4th place is an odd position to go all in

Well, games in April and May don't matter.  :)

By the end of tonight, we'll be back at 8GB. Maybe Rizzo can start preparing this franchise for the future.

You're a fool if you think the Lerners are going to get a better GM than Rizzo

The people who hired Rizzo will never be able to hire someone as good as Rizzo- that’s the level of logic I’d expect

They will never hire anyone and give them the authority to run the club

Given the number of teams ahead of the Nats in both the Wildcard race and NL East, here are my estimated EFFECTIVE number of games behind:

NL East -- add up all of the games behind the three teams who are ahead -- 16 games.

Wildcard -- add up all of the games behind the several teams who are ahead and divide by two (because there are two WC spots) -- 14 games.

That's the reality -- At the very least, re-tooling is in order.

9 back.  In three games, they'll have undone two weeks worth of work
