Lerners will can Rizzo at the end of the season.  They need a PR move, so clean slate while we build for the next era will be the pitch.  I expect Rizzo will get offers not only for Rendon, but also Turner, Doolittle, Scherzer and Strasburg.  I expect him to have at least one deal worked out that the Lerners veto. If he's smart, he quits at that point.  My dream would be for him to pull of the type of deals Cashman made when he moved Miller, McCann, Chapman, and I forget who else, but Mark Lerner is not Hank Steinbrenner.

Doesn't he have like 2 or 3 more years left on his deal at $4 to $5MM/yr?  If so...he's not going anywhere...

1.  I think Rizzo should probably lose his job over hiring Martinez and this crap bullpen, but....

2.  I also think Rizzo could manage a fire sale, but the Lerners will not allow him to do so.

3.  I don't trust the Lerners to hire a new GM or manager.

4.  We are screwed.

1. I think the Dozier signing and this bullpen probably warrant strong consideration. Rizzo stood on the table to keep Dusty. The Lerners have to own thag.

2. Yes. Rizzo evaluates talent well.

3. I dont trust them to hire a true GM. I think they want someone to be a head scout and find talent to fill in around the expensive players they like to sign to deferred money.

4. Maybe.

This is pretty much my expectation. (Though it's Hal running the show, not Hank. Hank is not involved.)

I think Adams, Rendon, Doolittle, Kendrick, Barraclough, Gomes & Eaton will be traded. Mark will veto a deal for Scherzer. We'll get 2 top-100 guys for Rendon (it may take us adding in another player to his deal, like Barraclough) but the rest of the guys we get will be mid-level or worse prospects. We need any we can get honestly and Rizzo's staff does a pretty solid job evaluating young players from other systems. If Dozier, Sipp, Guerra, Parra, etc. play well up until the deadline we could get a lottery ticket or two (or international spending money) from another team at best, but hey, sell of anyone you can.

To be honest, a core of Soto-Turner-Robles-Strasburg-Scherzer-Corbin is not terrible for next year, especially with money to spend.

There was no chance this year. It’s all an easy to fill in trend line
X = win division.
Y = lose division.

Fill in the next one in the series.

X Y X Y X X Y _

You can’t trade guys in the middle of a dogfight.

If they trade Rendon, Scherzer, and Strasbourg Nats park will look like Miami by August. I really want to see how Rizzo does without meddlesome ownership letting him pluck the top free agents

They will surround the Goose Island stand with water and build bridges out to the stand. Stock the pond with things caught in the Anacostia (tires, plastic bags, old cars . . . ).

They can go all MiLB with the promotions, too.  Replace God Bless America with a dance contest and the Presidents Race with the Goose Island Drown A Lawyer Competition.

That's a thought, but the problem would be finding a lawyer in DC, especially at the ballpark.  I'll ring up Bart O'Kavanaugh and see what he thinks.  I hear he has tickets near the dugout.

I assume it wouldn't be too hard to find him near the tap.  I hear he likes beer.

Reading this thread, one could conclude there's no difference as to (in)competence between the Lerner and the Angelos family.

HUH? First of all there's no pattern there. Secondly there's never two Y's in a row. So this year would be an X if anything.
