Depth at shortstop is non-existent.  TT is just an average shortstop, but his bat is desperately needed.

Great to see Eaton get back on track.

Kendrick is a liability in the field, but Dozier is not much better.  Davey would be smart to ensure Kendrick gets adequate playing time.
I am not sure who has better depth than Difo behind Turner, with Kieboom and Garcia in high minors, and even Antuna still around.

Didn’t Dozier recently win a gold glove.

Kendrick made a nice play on a liner today.    Buddy and I were chucklin' though.    He was ...  maybe  ....  six inches off the ground to make the snag.     He gave it his all for a slightly overweight, 35 year old comin' off a tendon tear.

Yes, in 2017.  Not sure who that guy was who won the gold glove, but I know that it wasn't today's Brian Dozier.

Dozier will be ok in the field. Kendrick was the one today who looked like he was trying out for the Wixards, dribbling everything hit to him and hitting a clutch long shot at the end.

Kendrick is a liability in the field,
He made a very ugly error yesterday.  I give him a pass on that, he made a couple sparkling plays and had and otherwise solid game.

One dribble that I recall. Were there others?

He jumped to catch a liner and it hit his pinkie and bounced out.

He caught the second attempt though.   One out of two ain't bad.

Oh plus he was grinning while pointing to his pinkie as to where the ball hit. :mg:

I think we should call up Carter and see what he can do at SS with Trea out

Even hitting .250 is an upgrade of Difo in the lineup.

Still give Difo playing time. But he’s not ready for everyday play yet

well, Sanchez gets the next shot, I/M/O.  Turner coming back by Mid-May would help.  I think they will hold off Kieboom until after the All Star break, and then it will be for 2d base.

Why does Zimmerman and his .192 BA get a pass then??

Do we have a high prospect 1B in AAA? I’d imagine Adams who is already with the club would get more starts.

Cut Zimmerman..anything. He is a giant albatross in the middle of our lineup.

Start Adams. Bring up Jake Noll.

Stop

You can do a lot worse than Zimmerman in your lineup

I don't think RZ has ever not hit when healthy
You will see Noll if he isn't.

There shouldn't be any more questions about this. The team simply doesn't have enough pieces. Doesn't have the manager. Doesn't have the starting pitching. Doesn't have a deep enough lineup. Definitely doesn't have the bullpen for this.

You know how we all lament not having that bullpen arm? That failed starter who becomes a good reliever? DO you know how teams got those guys? By making deals when it was obvious they weren't going to contend. By trading for a minimal prospect. By doing things like trading Bryce Harper for J.B. Bukauskas.

Do it now while teams are still thinking they have a shot. Several teams off to a hot start will need a bat like Rendon.

Good points. Meanwhile what about more Howie starts and Adams at 1b against all RH starters?
Still, if the Itkin brothers can pay $50 thou to suffer through this season, I can pay $75 to suffer with them. We just have to get used to rooting for the Senators again.

A couple of things. F.P. has been saying Difo has been swinging for the fences since he hit his home run against the Mets (reminds me of Espinosa). Last night he seemed to shorten up and try to hit the ball the other way so maybe he'll be okay for a while.
I'm in the tank for Zim but I can't understand why when he was younger and was hitting like he was he would change from the stance he had then to the ridiculous one he has now. His stance now takes so much timing with the cocked bat and the big leg kick. I looked at the tapes from the past. He didn't have all that. He did hit in 2017 like that but I think he might have more talent than brains. Even if that's true, for all he's done for Nats baseball he's THE MAN!

I'm just saying, Sean Doolittle to the Braves for Cristian Pache would give us a pretty terrific outfield and a ton of speed on the basepaths for the next 5 years

The longer we wait to trade Doolittle and Rendon, the less we're going to get for them. Strike now

No team that is 1.5 games back less than a month into the season is going to bust it up.
