MLB is the WORST at promoting itself-what a waste of an opening day! Baseball being back should be freaking celebrated not hidden away in the middle of the night, ridiculous!!!

Yea. I didn’t even know it was going on until I saw the results.

Game 2 is on ESPN tomorrow morning at 5:30. Just saying. Keiguchi is pitching.  Had no idea Ichiro was still playing.

Kikuchi is the correct spelling. Shutout so far.

Are there any outdoor stadiums in Japan?  If so, I have never seen one.  They all look like Tropicana Dome, or whatever the name of Tampa Bay's stadium is called.

Mariners beat the As 5-4 in Ichiro’s final game. Same result as his first game.

So who’s going to argue that he doesn’t deserve to be in the HoF?  :couch:

I'm sure one sportswriter somewhere will take the contrarian stance that Ichiro is not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and I don't know if Mariners fans will rough him up the way that Yankees fans roughed up the guy who made (and then was forced to retract) this claim about Mariano Rivera. Ichiro is one of the most obvious first ballot HoFers of my lifetime when you consider not just his numbers, but his significance in opening MLB to more foreign-born players and bridging American and Japanese baseball.

“Ichiro played his first game of professional baseball in 1992, the same year that Manny Machado, Mookie Betts and Bryce Harper were all born.”

Francesa somehow gets paid to speak about sports. Amazing.

Verlander gets a 2 year, $66 million extension for his age 37 and 38 seasons.  FWIW, Scherzer becomes a FA for his age 37 season (2022).

Angels release Dan Jannings, I could see the Nats taking a flyer on him if he'd agree to pitch in Fresno.

Marty Brennman’s final year as Reds announcer. He has been doing their games since 1974.

Cheapest tickets I can find in StubHub for opening day in Cincy are about $150 so I will have to pass. Unfortunately other duties as assigned will cause me to miss the parade also. So it’s TV. All the local stations are wall to wall opening day coverage as it should be for our unofficial national holiday.
