Arm fatigue from overuse. Whether you want to consider that an injury or not. Hopefully he'll be over it soon, but meanwhile he's taking a back seat because he's smart enough and honest enough to realize that he wouldn't be doing anyone any good (him or the team) by pretending he's ok.

I was wondering if it was a real injury. It's interesting that a few (of us here) people were raising the red-flag about Doolittle being overworked. I guess some people on here do know a little about baseball.

Aaron Barrett is terrible. He will fit right in with the rest of this crew.

He'd probably still be resting on the IL if not for September call ups.  It looks like the plan may be to use him sparingly maybe as a loogie until he gets it back.   Seems like some degree of dead arm.

Any idea why Fedde has not been used?   Today seemed like a great opportunity to throw 3 innings.

Hard to be effective when you've only pitched once in 12 days.

Washington Nationals. Where relievers come to die. (Then once they leave they light it up)

Hunter Strickland before Nats: 3.07 ERA, 1.199 WHIP

Hunter Strickland with the Nats: 4.76 ERA, 1.47 WHIP

Same old, same old with this team.

I'll grant you that a lot of the individual pitchers aren't very good, but why aren't we talking more about Martinez' misuse of them? For example:

- His penchant for taking out pitchers who are doing just fine to get ideal "lefty/right" matchups, which backfires on him approximately 100.000000% of the time, such as tonight
- His penchant for leaving in pitchers who are not doing well until well after serious damage has been done, long after everybody with a brain could tell the pitcher was going to get shelled
- His general way over-obsession with lefty/right matchups
- His overuse of all of our best pitchers
- His obsession with always and only using the "closer" in the 9th inning, at the expense of giving up big run totals in other innings, something that cost us numerous games early this year
- His obsession with warming up pitchers who aren't going to enter the game
- His mismanagement of pitchers in extra-inning games

I soured on Davey sometime shortly after the All Star break.  Most of us would shed no tears if he is NOT brought back next year.  But he really has nowhere to turn when it comes to the bullpen.  It might be on the Top 10 list of worst bullpens in the history of the game.

Did Martinez text Hale to pull Doolittle?

Wait, now people are upset for using Doolittle like everyone has wanted him used for the last month? As a situational lefty?

Maybe we're just getting the bad pitching out of the way for the playoffs. Like when the pen was really bad and then they went on a 19 inning scoreless streak.

How is this trade looking now?

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Pirates’ closer Felipe Vázquez has been arrested on charges of picturesography and soliciting a child.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Vázquez was arrested Tuesday morning in Pittsburgh on a felony warrant out of Lee County, Florida.

Vázquez, 28, of Saint Cloud, Florida, is facing charges of computer picturesography – solicitation of a child and one count of providing obscene material to minors.

As I posted in the Former Nats thread, that's probably curtains for his career if those allegations are true.

So, Dellin Betances has a partially torn Achilles. Certainly bad timing for him in terms of his pending FA.

Could make for a cheap one year deal

Going for a second opinion today. Britton came back 7 months after the same injury (probably a month too soon so the Os could showcase him). Possibly could be pitching in May.

The Nationals didn’t have a save between Aug. 16 and Sept. 17 — that’s 28 straight games. No team in playoff contention has ever done that this late, per some good research here. Only two teams ever at any point have, minus the 1981 strike-year.

After Rodney's 8th inning implosion we are at 23 blown saves by the bullpen. I probably missed 5-6 games in there along the way.

Imagine if we had even a league average BP.

This is on Rizzo. The bum just cannot build a bullpen.

How did those bullpens fare in the playoffs?
