Translation - the starting pitchers don't trust the bullpen.

Mark Lerner is already on record as saying he wants the Nats to be competitive.  He didn't utter the words winning or championship.

Here's my take...someone apparently got fired for taking us over the cap 2 years in a row.  You won't see us go over the cap a third.

What's competitive?  .500 ball?  Yeah we're probably a .500 ball club... perfect.

What a burning nightmare.

That would be Bob Miller, whom the Nats fired as Assistant GM after last season.

The players can beg all they want, but their actions showed otherwise. Kimbrel isnt going to make them run the bases better. Or catch and tag better. Or hit the cutoff. Or advance runners and make contact.

The bullpen has allowed 16 runs in 4 games and blew game 1.

They are by far and away the reason we suck.

And Kimbrel fixed that? No one is pitching outside of their role. Kimbrel isnt coming in the 7th inning. Hes a closer. Youd still be relying on Barclaugh, Suero, and  Grace.

The reason this team sucks is because they freaking quit on Dusty in the 2017 playoffs.

Our bullpen is horrific, but what humors me is the notion advanced by Boswell, that inside the clubhouse the players are begging for the team to sign Kimbrel.  Are you kidding me?  That's the problem with this franchise.  Expecting to win and thinking that signing Kimbrel is going to be the final piece.  DO YOUR JOB.  Worry about your damn self and run the bases correctly, throw to the proper base, hit a cutoff man, advance a runner with a productive out, hit a sac fly, and so on.

Yeah, this is what I don't understand about all the fuss over Kimbrel. Even if they tried to convert him from closer, and assuming he agreed, we have no idea how he would perform in that role.

Kimbrel would let you use Doolittle in a set up role, where he had success in Oakland. Makes us less dependent on needing to hit on Rosenthal, Barraclough, and Sipp.  May only need one of those to pan out. Meanwhile, we can assess whether any of our aaa/aa starters should be moved to the pen.

I get that, but you're still using these guys in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings.

So do we still feel like riding this trash bullpen to a 4th place finish in NL East?

David Robertson now sporting a 18.00 ERA, seems like he'd be a natural acquisition target for us.

Yeah. Assuming your SP goes 6, you only have to figure out 7th inning.

Would it solve all the problems of the pen... no. But you have to feel comfy right now with a Miller Doo Kimbrel back end

But let’s stop pretending it doesn’t solve the biggest problem. Giving away games is the biggest problem.

Isn’t he in Double A with the intention of keeping him close?

No, optioned to Fresno.

They see Ross as a starter.

I wonder if Felipe Vazquez dislikes us so much that we couldn't trade back for him . . .

Ah. Ok.

Wouldn’t be surprised if something changed with the bullpen but I don’t think the back end solution is just waiting in the minors. But hey who knows who steps up.

Kimbrel to Philly is what we all need to be concerned about.  He will go to the highest bidder, but with Robertson's implosion today, they may be getting more motivated to pony up.

No way to fix it either
