This team has shown when the going gets tough there gone

Sorry to mention this. Recall last year blowing a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth to the Cubs, right around this time of year, and that was for all intents the end of the season.  Last night was the 2019 version of that.  Season's done.

with Doolittle's career apparently being over, based on the posts last night, I was looking around the bullpen for someone who could step in and take his place.  How about this guy:

Last 10 outings:
10.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 13Ks, 0BBs, opponents hitting .179 against him.

Seems pretty dominant.

That's Sean Doolittle before last night.

He’s no Matt Grace.

I guess nobody cares that Barraclough was claimed by another team.  What a waste of more years of team control.

Rosenthal was recently DFA'd by the Tigers.  Any takers?

20 bucks says Barraclough goes on to have success with his new team?

Barraclaugh sucked at Miami IIRC.

If Barraclaugh had performed in DC like he performed in Miami, he'd have been the 8th inning guy all season. And we'd likely have 3-5 more wins

4.97 FIP last year.  He wasn’t very good.

4.20 ERA is much better than anyone not named Doolittle for most of this season.

As much as I think Barraclough sucks, you're on point with this.

Yeah, and I'm "due" to win the lottery. We have the WORST bullpen in baseball, and there's no defending that. If this were little league, the manager would have parents waiting for him in the parking lot! I hope Max is ready for some complete games! Bottom line... the bullpen has been consistently bad all year!

Rumors of Doolittle's demise have been greatly exaggerated

I did not know this, but if Doolittle finishes 100 games between 2018 and 2019 his option becomes a mutual team option, meaning he can opt out. Yesterday was his 82nd game. This makes having Doolittle come in for all those games doubly stupid.

versus the alternative?  I think if you are Davey, you have to try and win games and let the GM worry about contract issues.

Also, to be fair, he's usually hurt by now.

Good thing he got injured last year. Or he would be over very soon.

Eh, I would prefer him to opt out. He'll be 33 by the end of this season. He has a history of injuries and he's showing signs of fatigue and decline already. It would stink next year, but I don't think this team is truly competitive next season with Rendon walking. So I'd rather cut bait now.

Only annoying part is going to be that we didn't trade him at the deadline and get full value.

Wow I agree with Slate here. This is going to be a strange day.
