This team is a legit bullpen away from being the best team in the league. It might be too late though.

Its not and given that Scherzer is likely going to have a nagging injury a season, it would be best to shut it down

Jesus man. The dude has pitched 2 innings this year after not having a spring training.
In 542 appearances before becoming a Cub, Craig Kimbrel had given up multiple home runs in an outing just once.

In 12 games as a Cub, he's done it twice

In case you didn’t notice everyone is giving up more home runs. Only four teams in baseball with team ERAs under 4.00. Last year there were 13.

Nats have the best record in baseball since May 23rd with a bullpen ERA of 5.16. We would be unbeatable with a competant BP.

Takes some heat off of Suero.  More options for the 7th.  Rainey will not pitch in hi-lev spots.

How can it be debated?
Explain how it is. We just got a worse LOOGY than the two we have, and got a dude with an ERA over 8, who hasnt been good in four years

Doolittle
Rodney
Elias
Hudson
Strickland
Sipp
Rainey

That is...a fine bullpen. At least, I hope. It looks fine.

Okay, what the freak is wrong with you.

Explain how anything we got is even remotely a decent upgrade. The bullpen is still freaking trash.

Hudson is rocking a 4.31 BB/9 and a FIP of 4.21. He's gonna regress hard, particularly when he's brought into high leverage situations in games that matter.

Roenis Elías is currently rocking 4.40 ERA with a 4.67 FIP and loves giving up home runs at a clip of 1.53 HR/9. Oh and he's left handed, which means he's going to be facing a lot of left handed hitters. Who happen to hit .353/.441/.549 this season.

Then there is a the worthless crap that is Hunter Strickland. His only redeeming quality is that Harper doesn't like him.

You're quoting Strickland's ERA for 3.1 innings work?   He had a 0.60 WHIP during those 3.1 innings too...so maybe he's awesome!   I don't think anyone has any idea what he is going to bring or not bring, but his ERA in the 3 innings before he hit the 60 day DL seems completely irrelevant.

Elias has never been a loogy, and is a full inning pitcher.   Removing useless pieces like Blazek, Guerra, and/or Grace for new guys that can be options close and late makes the bullpen better.  The current bullpen has been respectable lately when they haven't had to go too deep down the depth chart in big spots.

He was meh last season too. He's, at best, a head case.

The bullpen has not been respectable lately. It has an ERA over 5 in the month of July. It's crap. Putting more crap in it doesn't make it less crappy.

The guys who are likely staying in the bullpen: Rainey, Doolittle, Suero, Rodney and Grace have a combined ERA of 3.06 in July.   And that includes some tough innings by Rodney and Suero when they were clearly being over-used because we had no one else.  If the current guys keep that up for August, and the new guys can keep their ERAs <4 or so, then that would be a top bullpen ERA in the NL.

Matt Grace has an ERA over 4 this month. And we're just going to ignore the fact that Suero and Rainey have been pathetic the rest of the time? That Rodney still has an ERA over 6? Cmon man, this bullpen is still trash and will be.

The July bullpen ERA is 4.76.  We get to drop the 3 weakest links.  Hudson may have some regression coming, but he's CLEARLY better than what he replaces.  Strickland has a career ERA under 3.  That's solid.  Elias has 14 saves this year and is at lesst better than Grace.  These aren't Earth shattering moves, but the pen is better and at minimum cost.

We needed impact relievers who can handle high leverage situations. We got the guy who couldn't strike out Bryce Harper

Seeing Elias pitching on video. I see why RH can't hit him. That 2 seamer and change up have crazy movement arm side.
