Roster Moves (2019)
« Topic Start: March 11, 2019, 02:28:18 PM »
I figured I would start the thread with a link to the out of options list, since people seem to always ask.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/03/out-of-options-2019.html

Nats have 3. Severino, Miller and Matt Grace.

Severino will be the interesting one. I think if they were looking to keep him, then they would have taught him a second position.

A bat that plays at catcher doesn’t necessarily play anywhere else

Severino gets waived, he's org depth at this point.  Miller likely starts the year on the IL, and Grace is making the roster.

got to think about a better short hand for the injured list so it isn't confused with the International League.

It's going to take time to adjust to the new lingo.

Also, Severino's bat doesn't even really play at catcher. I'm not totally convinced his glove is good enough as a backup catcher either.

Spencer Kieboom is a good insurance policy.  Severino is as good as gone.

I kind of like having a little position versatility out of a catcher, like Swihart (of course) and Kiner-Falefa.  IKF can play 2d, 3d, as well as catch, can steal too.  Hits a lot better than Severino.  When you Suzuki or Gomes will be your 3d best bench bat whenever they are healthy (after Dozier/Kendrick and Adams / RZ), it'd be nice if you had a reliable 3d catcher.

Joe Ross heading in from Fresno, will pitch out of the bullpen per WTOP.  No word yet on who gets sent down.

I guess that means Dozier is the backup SS.  Maybe Kendrick gets his first start and Dozier to the bench?

Rendon would be the SS and Kendrick would go to 3B.

Almost certainly not.  As far as I know, Rendon has never played SS for any sustained period.  Dozier played SS all the way through the minors and as a rookie.  Similarly, Kendrick has played 3B in fewer than 20 games in his MLB career, and he was terrible at it when he did it.

C&D said Rendon is the backup SS

Agreed. I’d bet Rosenthal to the IL and Sanchez quickly recalled.

Can't send Rosenthal to the minors unless you DFA him and he accepts assignment, which seems unlikely to me.
