Way too soon to be pissing away $7MM...though a case could be made that we already did...
We did.

Here's the thing: No matter what happens from here on out with Rosenthal, we can never trust him again in a clutch situation.

I, for one, welcome our new infield overlord. Let me also say, in dealing with the locals, it's advisable to have respected intermediaries like message board moderators to help mute criticism.

Who else from the 40 though?  I get you hate Difo but he’s a perfectly fine backup.

Don't need Difo with Kieboom here...

i welcome Kieboom, also.  I assume Difo has an option left?  If so , then he's the logical choice to be sent down.

With Difo down, who's the backup SS?

Noll is more likely to go back to Fresno.

noll if kieboom is playing 3d.  Rendon to il if he is out for a week. Rosenthal dfa if we are shorting the pen.

That's being too conservative IMO.  OK, you want to play it safe -- be content with a .500 season.

Uh...why?
Utility infielders are useful

Same backup SS you've had since Turner went down...

Dozier is garbage. Trade him or DFA him.

Dozier...

So if it had been Rendon, who has been your backup SS for the past week?  Difo is trash...needs to be set out at the curb...

Kieboom.  Dozier is barely adequate at second base.  Really, there are no good choices.   I almost wish Difo didn't have a half decent year in 2017.  It raised expectations to an unrealistic level. He is the Sammy Solis of utility infielders.

There's going to be a need for a move to reactivate Justin Miller. That'll be the Rosenthal DFA.

I suspect it will either be Noll sent down if Rendon is healthy or Rendon to the IL.  Difo goes to the bench, Kieboom takes over at SS, either way.  Noll or Rendon plays 3d.  Then the bench is more or less what was always intended this year - Difo Kendrick Adams Taylor Suzuki.  Decision time is when Turner and Rendon are healthy.  Then, if Kiebooom is raking, you may see a release / outright of Difo or a DFA of Dozier.

We've gotten a little spoiled by virtually every call up of a major position player working right away since Harper.  Rendon, Turner, Soto, Robles.  One of these will eventually not work. Let's hold off anointing Kieboom before we have to.

It may not be meaningful, but Kieboom played 2B in his last game at Fresno after playing primarily SS.  He hasn't played third all season.   I'm wondering if the short term alignment might be him at 2B, Difo at SS, and Kendrick at 3B with Noll as the backup.  Dozier might get injured buying groceries today, heh heh.

I don't think they pull the plug on Dozier just yet.  What has he had 3 homers in the past week?  Isn't that why he was brought in?  Slow starter.

I'm thinking they are disappointed with Difo's glove, TBH.  It's not carrying his bat every day.  Kieboom is plenty comfortable at SS. All he needs to be is adequate with a good bat while Turner is out. Then Dozier is an endangered species, either if he fails or if he does well (trade bait).

What's wrong with Dozier exactly? First 7 games of the season were basically zippy - an OPS (not even a BATTING AVERAGE) of .195.

His past 14 games: .239/.340/.522 for an .861 OPS. Isn't that basically what we're hoping for out of him?

I don't think they'd pull the plug entirely either, but I didn't think we'd be seeing Kieboom now.  The reality is Dozier is being completely outplayed by Kendrick at present (although there's no way Kendrick's current production is sustainable), and Difo is also showing signs of life in his bat (or whatever passes for a bat with him).  Maybe Dozier stays around and Noll goes down, maybe Kieboom plays both SS and 2B while they rotate the other positions until Turner and Rendon are back.  I also wouldn't be surprised to see Rendon go on the IL now, the way this team manages injuries.

It strikes me that the real decision comes when Rendon starts playing again.  That's when you'd have Kieboom, Dozier, Kendrick, and Difo (nominally Noll as well) for 2 starting positions and one backup.

And yes on Difo's glove.  I've been wondering that as well.  His bat hasn't been killing them in an absolute sense, but if you're going to hit like that at SS, you need to be better in the field than he's been.   He's an obvious goner when Turner is back, assuming that Kieboom does the business.  But then you face the Dozier issue again.

Noll didn't get on the plane from Denver to DC...he played in Fresno last night:

https://www.milb.com/gameday/grizzlies-vs-aces/2019/04/25/580056#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=580056

So there is your 25 man move...but Nats still need to make a 40 man roster move before the game tonight.

Dozier has been hitting .237/.341/.500 since his three hit game. That's pretty much his career line.

I think you're right. I think they bring him up to try him out at SS.

Yep, Kieboom is coming up to be our every-day SS until Turner returns.  If he rakes, then they'll have to figure out if they want to shift him to second and cut Dozier loose.

from 4 days ago, he's just throwing from flat ground.
