Gausman is cooking off the DL and has a 6+ ERA

Perfect storm for a Nats Kermit-fest. Assume the position, boys.

For me, the icing on the cake would be for dave to bring in Grace in relief.     :panic:       I am pulling for Ross to go 6 minimum so Grace won't give dave ideas.

the blazek move is a puzzler.  I guess McGowin is being sent down and Voth goes to the IL.

Are you saying what Joe Ross does in our uniform is not really considered pitching?

If Joe Ross is starting tonight we need to score 9 runs minimum IN THE FIRST INNING!.  I think we win anyways.

They sent him down to work on some things. In 18 innings, he has. 0.89 WHIP with over a strikeout an inning

https://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/6/27/8799553/brewers-rookie-pitcher-michael-blazek-35th-rounder

Oh and you remember when we played the Padres and hit four home runs in a row? And everyone said it hadnt happened in baseball since 2017? And that the Nats did it that time too.

Yea, Blazek was the guy we did it off of: https://www.theringer.com/2017/7/27/16077676/mlb-milwaukee-brewers-washington-nationals-michael-blazek-first-career-start-9553817c57f5

Blazek and Stevenson up.  McGowin back down and Zimmerman to the IL.

Starting to lose track....is Sanchez still up?  Who’s our backup infielder other than Howie?

Miller also moved to the 60-day to make room for Blazek.

Sanchez is not on the 25 man according to http://m.nationals.mlb.com/roster/.   We're carrying five OFs and five IFs, with Howie being the only backup (assuming Adams is the regular 1B now).  I wonder if there's another move to be made, or if Parra can play an infield position.

IIRC, previously when they have not had Sanchez or Difo up, Rendon is the backup SS and they would play Howie at 3d.  I don't know if this limits Howie's availability to PH.  Better move would be to start him at 1st. You can PH Adams because Parra or even Soto can play first if Howie has to move.

Padres DFA'd Jose Pirela. Utility guy, can play corner outfield, 1st base, 2nd base. Righty. In 2017 as a bench player he had a 121 OPS+. Last year he had to play full-time and had an 80 OPS+. He completely crushes AAA pitching, maybe getting him onto our bench as a utility guy is a good situation for him. Only problem is he can't play SS but I'd take him over Stevenson or Sanchez for our last roster spot, at least right now.

Blazek, 30, appeared in 23 games out of Fresno’s bullpen. He struck out 28 batters, issued 10 walks and held opposing batters to a .224 batting average in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. In his last eight outings dating to June 25, Blazek posted a 1.74 ERA (2 ER/10.1 IP) with 13 strikeouts, three walks and opposing batters went 5-for-35 (.143) against him.

Can't be any worse than our other options

Hmmmm.  The Nats website currently lists 14 active pitchers and 13 active position players on the 25 man roster.

Stras, Corbin, Fedde, Sanchez, Ross, Blazek, Doo, Grace, Guerra, Mcgowin, Rainey, Rodney, Sipp, Suero.
2 Cs, 6 IFs, 5 OFs.

Gonna guess RZ to the DL (still listed as active), McGowin or Ross to Harrisburg.  Fedde gets his Wednesday start, and, if Scherzer is ready to start Thursday, then  Fedde to Harrisburg. We will not need a 5th starter until 8/6, and if Scherzer reinjures himself, Fedde can be recalled in < 10 days.

Oops, I think we need a 5th/ spot starter 7/27.  Tu - Stras, W-Corbin/Fedde, Th - Scherzer, F -Sanchez, Sa - Ross, Su - Stras, M Corbin, Tu Scherzer, W - Sanchez, Th off, Friday (AZ)- Stras,   Sa- Corbin, Su Scherzer, M (SF) Sanchez, Tu - Fedde recalled.

Any word on the 26th man for today?  Seems it would likely be Sanchez or McGowin. Could even be Barraclough, I guess.

Curious move.

Since there is a double header today, maybe they wanted an extra C on the bench.
